LS4 swap into '85 IROC -Z?
I'm wondering if an LT4 will easily install into an '85 IROC-Z? I'm sure an oil pan swap will be required. I'm also wondering how to wire-in the ECM to the original wire harness??THX...Joe...

The LS4 is designed for front wheel drive applications. They dont have a starter pad and they use the 60* V6 transmission bolt pattern. So it makes swapping them into a RWD application nearly impossible.

Sure its possible to make a front wheel drive thirdgen, or are strut towers too narrow?

This is correct. The block is also different on the back end an the intake manifold is horrible. The LS4 is only good for stealing the heads (799) and rods.

The LT4 definitely can be done. It has been done a couple times by now. I would contact Speartech for the engine harness. You will need a serious transmission to handle that power. You can run the 8L90 that comes behind the LT4 in the Corvette or the 10L90 that comes in the ZL1 camaro. They both might require some modifications to fit the tunnel though. Hawks Motorsports sells the swap headers, mounts ect.

How hard or easy is it to wire-in the ECM into the existing OEM wire harness??? Do they make it plug-n-play or is it a DIY hack install?? THX...Joe

The engine harness will be completely unique to whatever engine you swap in. There are DIY and aftermarket solutions. Both require integration into the chassis harness of the car. Take a look at the swap forums and read the stickies at the top.
