ls swap differential question
if i were to do lets say, an ls1 swap, would i need to get a newer differential rear end to handle more power, or are they basically all the same?

Re: ls swap differential question
LS1 cars all came with the same model of differential our cars have; the 7½" 10-bolt. Which is NOT to say that "they're the same", or that "they hold up just fine"; only, the exact words I said.
Apart from that, "need to" is a complete other question. How much power are you expecting to apply to it? How much risk of it tearing up and needing to be repaired or replaced are you willing to accept? What's your budget? And so forth.

I think the answer depends on how much power the ls will have. How abusive you're gonna be and the condition of the current rear? What's your tire situation?I've seen 150hp lg4s blow up rears when these cars were new. Obviously the drivers were pretty abusive. A built ls will trash a stock rear.

Re: ls swap differential question
Majority of LS1 cars get by fine on the 10 bolt axle. Helps to use a structural rear cover.
It costs many thousands of dollars to put in a stronger axle. Can do later if you find out you need it.

Re: ls swap differential question
Power alone doesn't break these rears but traction does. Hard launches are a no no with a stock 10bolt. Rolling into the throttle is fine. My 10 bolt is still alive behind my LS but I never launch the car.
