Before you do anything, it would be wise to read as much as you can. This swap has been done countless times and no two recipes are the same. 99% of the info you need is contained within the sticky's at the top of the LSX swap forum.

you must buy an LS engine.
you must remove your old engine.
lol

LS/4l60e is the easiest thing to fit your stock car.

there are step by step how tos in here as shifty stated above.

with all the information, you really should be asking a few questions about wiring, as everything is documented in here

An LS/4L80e drops in just as easy too and it's a much stronger transmission

true, but i build the 4l60s to not need a 4l80 unless youre over 500 rwhp--- which about 95% of LS builds arent, so there is no need for that extra cost, and weird gearing of the 80 transmissions

Yea can't argue with that. The 4l80e has big power gearing.

Re: LM7 5.3 SWAP

4L80E is by far the better transmission and a fairly easy swap. Then again I would use a 6spd or 10spd now. Swapping in another 4spd is kind of pointless.

I'd be looking into a ZF8HP swap. Those transmissions are sweet and handle a lot of power stock

Re: LM7 5.3 SWAP

Sounds great guys.

He has a LM7/4L60E he's putting in his car. All that ... other ... doesn't really help him out much.

OP, there's a whole sub-forum on here about LS & LT swaps. There's several "stickies" at the top of this page about it. I'd hate to say that "every" possible question you can ask has already been answered, but I'm sorely tempted to do so. I'd advise you to read, read, read, and read some more, then get serious and READ, and then only after you've READ every single word that's already been posted on this site about this EXACT swap you're doing, THEN AND ONLY THEN start talking and asking questions about it. Run your receiver for a good long while before turning on your transmitter. Nobody is gonna want to spoon-feed you stuff that other generous people have already put out there, just because you're too lazy to read it.

Re: LM7 5.3 SWAP

The stickies in the engine swap forum are kind of dated and I'm sure lots has changed since they were originally posted.
Is there a latest and greatest swap thread out there that I may have missed?
I've had an LM7 waiting in the wings (or still in the 03 Tahoe more exactly) that might have a home in the 82 Coupe roller I bought years ago. Something maybe to do in retirement (which isn't far off...).
About 5 years ago I'd assembled this short list of the Holley parts available.

ENGINE MOUNT BRACKETS 71221003HKR
TRANSMISSION CROSSMEMBER 71222005HKR
GM LS SWAP OIL PAN 302-2
LONG TUBE HEADERS - 70101316-RHKR
HEADER-BACK EXHAUST KIT 70501426-RHKR

A quick search shows that the headers are no longer available and no replacement from Holley. The same with the cat back exhaust. I recall the headers being pulled from inventory for some EPA violation or similar along with their Gen 1 versions (which I should have bought when I had the chance). Now while looking through Summit's offerings, I don't see any LS swap specific headers.
I see Hawks has something.
https://www.hawksmotorsports.com/82-...-tube-headers/

Speed Engineering as well.
https://speed-engineering.com/collec...s2-ls3-ls6-lsa

Anything else out there? Other than what I see on E-Bay (which I'd rather avoid).

That falls in line with other accounts too.
Should I pull the trigger on this they'll probably be the go to although at 1 7/8" for a near stock LM7, it seems a bit much. At most, I'd put a cam in it but it would otherwise be the truck engine complete with the intake. (At least to start anyway).
