350tbi swap popping out of throttle body

Hey guys new to this forum stuff but I need all the help I can get. I just recently swapped a 350tbi into my 1992 Camaro that previously had the 305tbi everything went together easy the 350 has a lunati voodoo cam and break in went good and after about 10 miles of driving i took the car home and it started running weird jerking a lot and popping out of the throttle body. The battery stopped charging when this happened but since then I got the charging problem fixed but the popping, jerking and stalling when put in D or R is still there. Am I missing a ground because i only have the both from the back of each head and just the negative from the battery. it ran great before and now I’m just stuck on what is happening

I haven’t taken the valve covers off and checked anything, and it does have a custom chip and no I haven’t data logged what do I need to do that?

You likely have a tuning issue unless the car was properly data logged to make your chip. Mail order tunes or "performance" off the shelf chips are nothing more than stock tunes with a few tweaks. You'll need to learn to DIY tune (infinite info on this site for this) or take it to someone who can do EPROM tuning.

Re: 350tbi swap popping out of throttle body

If it's rhythmic, in time with the engine running, and if it gets worse when you try to accelerate, it's probably an exhaust valve not opening. Sometimes it can even do it at idle. If not an exh valve, it may be a blown head gasket, in the place they blow most often; which is NOT between a cyl and the water jacket, butt rather, between 2 cyls. The place that tends to do this the worst is between #5 & #7 since those are adjacent physically as well as adjacent in the firing order.

If it's not rhythmic, i.e. just sorta randomly pops butt also when you try to accelerate, it's tuning; specifically, MUCH too lean.

https://tunedperformance.org/faq

wasn’t sure if it’s a cam going flat or needing additional tuning.
moates has the xtreme aldl cable 1 and I have a few left in stock as well.

Re: 350tbi swap popping out of throttle body

That's mechanical, not caused by "ground" or tuning (which of course is not to say that the tune is "right"; only, that no amount of tuning is gonna fix it, it's WWWWAAAAAAAYYYYY beyond that)

Exhaust valve not opening, intake valve not closing, or blown head gasket

Exh valve problems could be: rocker fallen off, push rod bent/broken, stud broken, cam lobe down

Int valve problem would be broken valve spring

Blown head gasket would be ... blown head gasket

Time to take off the valve covers

Okay yeah that would probably make sense I wouldn’t think the tune would change anything because it seemed like it ran pretty great before something happened. I do feel like it’s more towards the headgasket since it’s getting more hot than usual but let’s say it’s the cam, rod, rocker or the spring. Do I have to take the motor out again and rebuild top end or just replace the broken parts with better quality

Re: 350tbi swap popping out of throttle body

Head gasket is the least likely of any of the things I mentioned. That's kinda why I posted them in that order.

See my signature for some mental discipline. Concentrate on the concept of "most likely". Which is, valve train problems.

Stop talking about it and pop the valve covers off. Internet posting won't identify the problem. LOOKING AT IT will. Once you've identified what's wrong, THEN it'll be time to start talking about replacement etc. Until then it's all just abuncha wasted bandwidth.
