the best a 305 can be
hey guys i am thinkin of either puttin a 350 in my car or switchin to carburation on my 305 so i can put a huge cam in and do heads intake everything. my question is what do u think is the best a 305 can do without nitrous just all engine. liek 1/4 mile times. i'm lookin to hit low 13's high 12's is this attainable with a 305 thanks. also i have a 5 spd tranny how long will it last with a 300+ horse 350
go for the 13s with the 305 i wanna see it done i know it can be id like to do it myself but i will also be using n2o more than likely but i wanna get a decent set of heads, intake, cam and MAYBE carb this summer im still not sure i also plan on buying another car this summer either a l98 camaro or a mustang (sorry i kinda like my dads tho)

an lo3 in the 13's running n/a...very possible, but it'll take some $$$$$$
it would be cool to see a built up all-motor 305...it would be different, but different isn't what wins races or posts your times.
oh, and your ? on the t-5...i believe it will hold up, but you have to baby it. they are rated for a max of like 325 ft/lbs of torque. just don't rag on it too hard

lets see,
If...
you convert to carb, get a decent manifold, ditch the computer, get a regular hei distributer, world heads, a large cam, and some steep gears its possible...but you'd be much better off swapping motors. If you are going to build up a motor that much, there is almost no point in not rebuilding it...and to do that the block must come out. A good rule of thumb for us 305 guys would be "if the block comes out, it stays out". It just makes more sense all around, and will make more power for you. period.

Nah its comp cams. The specs are: 206/210 duration @ .050" and .450"/.480" lift. I dont want a lot of computer hassles so I want to keep the duration low with a high LSA. I was looking at Lunati cams also. They seem to make good cams. I'm lookin for at least 270hp at the flywheel, so I think this will be enough cam.

yep when my 305 bites it im probly gonna go for an all aluminum vette motor with supercharger hehehehe
Personally I would love also to see the 305. I say build it up and see what you can do with it. Get the intake and roller rockers and obnoxious stuff. Get the heads and all that but keep in mind that you can transfer all of it over to a 350 if the 305 isn't what you want it to be. Good luck...
P.S. my friend has a 305 5-speed that can beat new SS's just some inspiration.

I have crane P#104224 in my LB9. I don't like it though...I LOVE IT!!! Power all the way up to 5500rpm. I know someone with my set-up except for TPIS long tube runners, ported plennum and 52mm throttle body who shifts at 6000rpm.
I have no computer problems (My MAF is dead, so I get a funny idle. But not with the MAF working!) and the idle is smooth which is what I wanted.
Just thought you may be interested.

I would say go with the 305, i tried to take the 350 route, 202 heads, same intake, cam, and compression as the 305, my 305 has 10-1 comp, 477. 477 lift cam, 222*, 222* duration, and stock 1.84, 1.50 heads, and both have a 600 cfm carter and hei distributer, and i would say my 305 had more power, (i had to pull the 350 out because of a oil pressure prob), but i think ill run mid to low 14s with it this summer, 3.23 posi, turbo 350 tranny

Haven't you seen NJSpeeder's car? Go in the TBI section. IIRC, he's running high 13's now. And he just did a few other mods, and shaved some weight off the car.
