Tranny ideas for a BBC thirdgen
First off let me say this forum is AWESOME and im so glad everyone is so open and intelligent on the matters they reply to. Any ways, the situation is, Big Block Chevy- (Massive Power) shoe horned into a thirdgen camaro. I can see that most drag racers are biased toward autos, but i like the freedom and feel of manual. What manual trannies can be used (as easily as possible) in a BBC thirdgen conversion.:lala: Last edited by nbn792; Mar 21, 2002 at 04:24 PM.
I considered a manual swap on mine (Super T10, M21 etc) but decided on an auto. Depends what your idea of "easily" is. I really think an auto swap would be easier/ cheaper than an manual conversion. It could be done, it would be pretty awesome, but i think there really wouldn't be anything painless about installing any. Pretty much ever BBC third gen I've seen has gone with an auto. If you do decide to do it, be sure to take LOTS of pics, i wouldn't mind actually seeing it done

You can easily use a Tremec TKO. It will hold 520 ft-lb which is more than the Viper tranny is rated at. I have a Tremec TKO all setup and and ready to go but I didn't choose that route in the end. I ended up having headers custom made and they didn't work with the Tremec. But Hooker SuperComps fit fine as would Sanderson cast logs.
Shoot me an e-mail or PM and I can help you get set up with something. I have some very good connections.

I am using a G-Force clutch assisted five speed. It has a torque capacity of 1000 ft/lbs. Before that I used Richmond 5 & 6 speeds but they did not last long behind the big block in a heavy street car.
The total was $4570.00, but that was in Jan of '96. I would think they are more now. That price includes the H pattern shifter. It was almost as much as my motor. I have the build sheet if you need any other info or check their website. I believe it is g-forcetransmissions.com. I don't think they offer a 6 speed.
