305 sound clips
305 sound clips
anyone have sound clips of a 80 series flowmaster or a hooker aero-chamber muffler installed on a 305 car? all of the clips ive heard for the 80 series and the hooker were on a 350 and i wondered how much differnt they would sound on a modded 305.
all of them 305, /w headers and hooker exhaust

some of the clips that I hear with the hooker systems sound good like ur and the one on this post. But I have heard other hookers that dont sound as good. and I also hear flowmaster systems that sound really good. But then I also hear flowmaster systems that sound hollow and fake. I think that I am going to go with the hooker system though. I just have to check out the prices.
Clip one is from an 85 tpi with I believe edlebrock headers
Clip 3 (reviving at idle),2 (driving away, taken from quite a distance) are from my car 85 tpi with hooker headers
It also depends on how good your recording equipment is.

With that hooker catback on ur car is that the hooker for 1985 with the 4 bolt cat or is it the 1986-1990 setup with the slip on fittings. Because man I think I am going to go with that same exhaust.

How much was it for ur entire exhaust system if u dont mind me asking. I wonder if I should go with the 1986 and up stuff rather then the 1985 stuff. Is there any difference between the 2 systems. If I do go with the 1986 and up stuff is there any way that I can fit it on to my 1985 cat or will I have to buy a new cat also.
P.S - Jono, Ur car is a 1985 tpi right, and u also have hooker headers and hooker catback. Do u have any other mods on ur car.
Thanks alot

I've also got a cold air kit
if you keep your cat the headers with y-pipe will not fit properly but I'm sure a muffler shop will be able to do something about it.
If you go with the 82-85 hooker exhaust it will have a piece that will fit the stock cat perfectly, I'm not sure how difficult it will be to fit the y-pipe to the 4 bolt you'd have to get an estimate. The total cost was as follows
random tech cat 212 (you can do better, get a catco for 100)
hooker exhaust 259
headers 2055 359 + 210 for jet hot
stage 8 locking bolts and felpro gasket = around 40 i think
add it all up take off $100 for discount then convert to cdn
= 1081
= 981 * 1.50 (at the time now its 1.6)
= approx $1500 cdn
I have a house in florida i mailed these too so I didn't have to pay duty, but the headers were late
so they were sent across the border + 150 cdn duty for that
so basically i got ripped off but i still love the stuff
total $1650cdn just for the parts
wow

I can get some Hooker Headers for $600 bucks. I am checking out the Hooker Catback prices right now but I think that it will be around $400-500 bucks. So it will cost me around $900 to 1000 bucks for the setup that you have omiting that Cat. I might even get a deal too.
Jono have you done the 1/4 mile in ur car.

The mods actually didn't do a whole lot for me there was some powergain but not as much as I had hoped.
here are my 2 best track times before and after mods
these were done on all season tires, traction is a huge problem
mods -------- no mods
2.386--60ft--2.243
6.463--330ft--6.441
9.856--1/8ET--9.931
72.8--1/8MPH--70.50
15.201--1/4ET--15.489
91.65--1/4MPH--87.75
take it as you will my ET didn't improve a whole lot, that was my best 60ft of the day 2.386 i averaged 2.4-2.5. As you can see up to the 330ft mark i was faster when i was stock! I thought i would gain a few more mph but what can you do, the car is a 305 and 17 years old.

Thats not bad for a stock 305 TPI. How many miles do u have on ur engine. That might also be a factor of .2 seconds or so. Ur car ran a 15.4 stock with no mods. I should be able to get around 15.2 or 15.3 with the chip and K&Ns and a airfoil. I also have 3.42 gears which might also help.
What gears do u have in ur car jono and how many miles on the engine. And one more thing, how high above sea level is the track u are at.
Thanks

I have 3.42 gears but I have an open rear end which makes track life miserable, if you have posi that would really help, if I ever cut a 2.0 60ft time i'd most likely get 14.6-14.8 so its not that bad. The track was only about 600ft above sea level and the temperature that day was 30C (HOT!!!) Also I had trouble kicking down to first gear with the auto it would either shift too early at around 4000rpm or it wouldn't kick down and remain in second gear. This was because i was trying to feather the throttle to get traction, when i was stock i could just basically floor the car. Also in cold weather you can definitely tell that you have more power.
Also my car only has approx 140,000 km which is pretty good. My car just doesn't seem to have as much power as other stock engines. Some people with 85 tpi's have been running 15.0 stock so your car may react differently
