Hooker Super Comp Question

I just recieved a set of Hooker Super Comp Headers (P/N: 2210). To my surprise, the passenger side header is in 2 pieces - the rearward headpipe is not welded on, it slips into another tube. I assume that this is for ease of installation (so it doesn't get hung up on the starter). I've never run into this situation before. The instructions simply say to "install R-4 headpipe in sliptube on main body of header" - nothing about welding or other means of fastening the two tubes together. Surely this setup will result in an exhaust leak, won't it? Anyone with these headers, how did you fasten the tubes?

Dude, I got the same headers about a year ago, and my passenger side header was not in two pieces. I mean, the flange that connects to the head was in two pieces, but all my tbes were connected. I bought mine directly from Jet Hot, so I'm not sure if they received from that way from hooker, but that doesn't sound right. Have you contacted Hooker about this?:nono:

That is the way they are. Slip them together and run them.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think that I'll use a small exhaust clamp just to be sure (if I can find one to fit 1 3/4" DIA).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! don't use any clamps!!!!!!!! then you'll risk warping the tube and then you WILL have a leak. leave it alone trust me.........on hooker's s10 long tubes the driver side header has 2 or 3 slip fit primary tubes to wrap around the frame and they don't use any clamps and they don't leak.

OK, I won't clamp it!

They're going on the SB Chevy 400 that I'm dropping in my '91 Firebird this coming Saturday. If it does leak, I can always clamp or weld it at a later time (and I'll come on here and make fun of you ). But you sound confident, so I'm hoping you're right.

Thanks again

Super Comps

I have the same headers in my 92Z with a 406 and 3 other friends in their 3rd gen also. Just slip it on and there should be no leaks. Well, at least mine does not leak. So don't make fun of me if yours does. ha ha ha ha

Re: Super Comps

I have these on my 87 Iroc and have no leaks. However I am in need of a little assistance. I Blew the passenger side gasket and I am having a hell of a time getting them back together. Is there a better tool to use to get the bolts good and tight. I am new to this and could use a little guidance from the Vets. Any help would be great.
