How much of a difference will changing the cat make? I have the stock one now with a 3" catback and stock manifolds. In the near future I plan on getting headers and I think I remember reading somewhere that the stock Cat didn't flow worth anything.

Thanks

Bill

I will make a slight difference, but its not worth doing before you put the headers in.

Get the headers and a 3" cat to complete your exhaust setup, then you will see a noticeable difference

Get a high flow converter. There are a few to choose from.

Word of warning, headers may shorten the life of your starter motor. if you decide to use them wrap them in heat resistant bandage, you should then be OK, it ups the BHP a bit as well.

You will notice a performance gain as well as a sound change with a hi-flo cat. I would wait until you can afford to have the entire exhaust put on since you plan on doing it. Have the headers ceramic coated. It helps.

instead of wrapping the header to protect the started, could you not make a heat sheild, or wrap the starter instead.?

Yea you could and thats what I would do. Wrapping can cause moisture to be trapped under the wraps rusting up the headers. If the headers are ceramic coated it will bring down the underhood temps a lot. You can get heat shields for the starter at Jeg's or Summit Racing.

Yes, go with the heat sheild.
