headers for top end TQ

my IROC L98 has plenty of low RPM torque so any small mod's i put in it i want to improve my high rpm torque (cause going 70mph or faster when i hit the gas it seems to hardle move) i have 1 5/8" edelbrock TES headers now, im thinking of getting SLP 1 3/4" header, how will they affect my torque curve? and what headers are good for top end TQ, shorties, longtube or what, any suggestions or comments will be helpful.....Thanks alot - Don

what header you should run would be affected by how high of a rpm range you want as well as what mods you have done to your car

the more mods you have the more air you are going to flow and bigger the header you want to get

as for what you are going through it could be something other then just getting a set of headers.

first things first though

get a full tune up before you mod the car

change your oil, plugs, coolant all your filters, hoses, have your injectors sent out to be cleaned

I mean a FULL tune up

with how old your car is you might be shocked at how much this could help

Longtubes would be your best bet, with SLP 1 3/4 shorties coming in second.

that's too simple man

you also need to get into VE, port size, cam duration, head flow, stroke and bore, plus many other things to think of

Really thats all he needs...when moving the torque boost around "a little" using headers. He's reference is what's installed now. I guess you never tuned engines from track to track using headers. Anyways, thats a given he wants to move the torque boost up the RPM range. Your rite if tube size becomes an issue or compromizes area under the curve, you'll need to change more (collector, tube length, rod length, cam, heads....).

Yup, besides those other things, 1 3/4 headers on your engine will improve that, and a complete 3" exhaust if you don't have that already.

i have a flowmaster cat-back right now and TES 1 5/8 headers but the i hate the edelbrock headers and the flowmaster is nice but i think i like the hooker cat-back better i may switch to it.....So now what headers should i get i know i should get 1 3/4" but should i get the SLP's or would a set of hooker super comp's be just as good?? or are there any good headers that i may not know about already??

PS. if they are cheaper than SLP's and work better than the edelbrock headers that would be good......oh and they dont have to hook up to my smog equipment

you might be able to save some money if you use those edelbrock shorties with two 2.5" pipes coming off the Y pipe before they get smashed into the doube D connection Then run them in the stock location. In the back put 2 round muffler in the back of the car at the ends of the two 2.5" pipes like this:
