having troubles removing exhaust manifolds, can you help me?
I have all the bolts off of the passenger side except the farthest one back and the one that the dipstick is attached to. Number one, how do you get the dipstick out of the way to extract the bolt. I thought it was a press fit into the block. i tried to pull it out and it wouldnt budge. Secondly, are there any hints on removing the last bolt on the passenger side. I have tried stubby wrenches, regular wrenches, from up top, from undernieth, gallons of WD40. Any tips. I can get the stubby wrench on it but I do not have any leverage to get it started.

If you drop your exhaust you can get the rear most one from under the car with a regular combo wrench or come to think of it I think I used a short socket and ratchet. The one with the dipstick is a stud with the dipstick attached by a nut, remove the nut, pull the dipstick out and remove the stud.

I have the whole y-pipe assembly out of the car but I can't seem to get a wrench on the nut. As for the dipstick I removed it from that stud and I geus I will start yankin on it.

Well I pulled and pulled and pulled and the dipstick didn't budge. So I beat the **** out of it and kinked it in like 5 spots and now it is uterly useless, but hey it is still in.
The other day I was looking at my exhaust manifold bolts while looking to see what else I'll need to remove to get my headers in. I noticed on some of the bolts there appeared to be a metal tab bent over some of the hex points. O.k. looks easy to bend upright and get the socket on there. Felt of that back pass. side and yes that tab was there but couldn't figure how I was going to get the tab straightened out on that one. Well, maybe you have a tab problem and it's just hard to tell in a poorly lit area.

I eventually got that bolt out. The dipstick never made it out and now it is a mangled mess. I was able to bend the tab up from undernieth with a 90* screwdriver. I had to have someone guide me. I was only able to budge it a litte but than I used the spare tire jack to pry it up the rest of the way. That thing came in so much use believe it or not. I finally yanked on the manifold while spraying WD40 on the head and bolt and it got it loose. I then just slowy unscreded it. Huge Pain though. I just hope I don't have any leaks and that the car runs.
