I can't get the thing out and the screws are starting to strip really bad. All of my AIR is removed except for the smog pump. Can I leave it on or will it sieze up over time?

I am going to try to get it off but I am dealing with a time issue and need to get my car runing. I have heard that if you leave it on without anything connected to it it can sieze but I don't see how. Those screws just don't want to turn.
I've been driving since mid may with mine still on the motor, even though it isn't hooked up to anything. I've been TRYING to take it off.... check the reply to you're other thread, I put a link to my ranting about smog pump removal and the problems I'm having.

shifty,
i know i'm new here but wanted to let ya know what i did with my 85, it had no motor when i bought it and the 85 had v-belts and i wanted serpentine so i got all the parts to convert it from a local bone-yard and made sure i got the parts from one that didnt have an air pump so it was cleanly eliminated
just a thought for ya in the future????
ya got me wondering if those may be left hand threads????

My car came with the serpintine system. I don't really car if it is on or off I just didn't want it to fail or sieze because nothing is hooked to it.

HrdRockA4305-Those smog pumps change their minds when you come out with a big ol sledgehammer!!
Actually.... sledge wouldn't be the way to go. If I bust the mounting bracket, I'll have serious trouble because the AC and belt tensioner are attached to the same bracket along with it. And if I'm breaking things as it is.... But its tempting.

I have a stripped bolt in my smog pump, so I am going to leave it on. However I removed the smog pump pulley and I will be running a smaller belt so that I wont even be spinning the smog pump. Does anyone have a part number for the smaller serpentine belt for those motors with the smog pump bypassed? THanks!

I am in the same dilema as you are. However if you take the pully off and try to run a smaller belt the pump still sticks out to much and will get in the way of your new belt. Just put the pully back on and the pump without anythiung connected. That is what i did.
