Keep in mind that the Mustangs come factory with Shorty headers and the aftermarket exhaust systems guys are bolting on are usually based upon the factory quad catalytic converter H pipe. So that's one reason why they have the unique sound and also it's the firing order. IMO (and a few Mustang friends of mine), my Dynomax Super Turbo catback and Flowtech headers sound way meaner and better than their Flowmaster setups. Once I heard my setup, I'll never go to any other catback with my headers. It just sounds amazing.

For someone with a question like that, a set of heddman shorty headers a small Y pipe, loose the cat, run 2.5" exhaust pipe into and under your seat. Don't worry your headache will go away!!! Your vision will tunnel but thats normal, you'll feel sleepy too, just go with it...please do this, sooner the better. LOL Why are you wanting to take the THUNDER away from our streets and sound like a big *****? Don't answer...just do the mod above and make alot of people happier. LOL

WHAT IS WRONG WITH WANTING A GOOD SOUNDING EXHAUST THE MUSTANG HAS A GOOD SOUND SO DEAL WITH IT i hate mustangs just like you but i love the thunder they have i have a 89 rs camaro and a 88 trans-am and they sound weak as hell next to a 5.0....so nevermind the question ill do my own home work thanks....
Ok, Enough with bashing Mustangs guys. You all mad because they are still being made and the Fbody is dead?!?! It would be no fun if there weren't Mustangs out there for us to race.
Now to be on topic.....Theres a fairly new Trans Am Ram Air riding around my town that sounds outstanding. From what I have heard he has the SLP Loudmouth on it. It has the "higher" tone similar to what a Mustang has. Our motors seem to produce a lower tone. Now lets consider a few things here. Mustangs have true duals, and their mufflers are ahead of the axle therefore giving longer tailpipes. We have the muffler at the very tail end of the system and it's a crossflow. So here's my thoughts on the matter......Those of you that have hollowed cats....make a muffler out of it and remove the crossflower out of the back, of if you are running the cat, get the loudmouth and put it in there. How to make a muffler out of the cat? Somehow drill a pipe with a bunch of small holes or find one made that way, stuff the cat with muffler packing and weld the pipe in there making a "glasspack" out of it.
What is the firing order of the Mustang anyway? Also what is the order of the LS1? Not the standard 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2??

Sorry dude..it was coming and you knew it. But The stangs growl not thunder.
Anyways, you may want to try a set of Tri-Y headers, swap cat w/ resonator, single in single out muffler.
Here's a link for some Tri-Y part#175Y non emission only.

i love the sound of the sbc v8 w/ 180 deg firing oder myself. Not as efficeint but sounds alot more like the older v8's of yesteryear. The mustangs sound kinda weak IMHO. I hate that sound. What is the fnord firing order? 60 deg?
