what type of exhaust is good for this
The best for headers is SLP, mufflers is varying. I hear Flowmasters are really good, others say Dynomax, I suggest getting some literature and comparing the numbers yourself. That's what I'm gonna do. Cats, I guess you can keep your stock, gut them if you aren't worried about emissions or don't have to deal with it, and as far as joes go, well, I have no clue
getting a full, free flowing exhaust would really help that TBI. I used to have one and was stuck in the 16s with minor mods. but you could easily run low 15s with some SLP headers and a nice flowing catback

If you can get away with it... save money buy not getting a cat
Better sound, that much less restriciton(while many argue how much restriction that is)... but still, that much less restriction.

Well, man, I've got a '92 305 TBI, and I just redid the entire exhaust system.
SLP 1 5/8" coated w/air tube headers
Catco Direct Fit 3" cat
Hooker Catback.
Bad. ***.

You probably wont notice any difference between hookers and slp. SLP is just the upper end choice. If you dont mind getting a custom y-pipe i would go with hookers. You could also get hedmans which make a y-pipe for their headers and are cheaper than hookers but not a bad header at all. SLPs are nice but if you dont want to spend 500+ for stainless headers with a y-pipe and installation kit go with hooker or hedman.

Look in a Jegs catalog or go online. Search for hooker cat-back. Now there are 2 different ones you can use.
The $200 one will work but will need some minor fab work done, so that it will hook to your cat. The $270 one should bolt right up. I'm not at home so I don't have my catalog for part #s.
As far as the cat goes, just call Jegs and ask for one for your current setup.

My advice would be to not buy the install kit for the SLP headers, all I really used were the bolts.

go with some decent headers like i am and put glasspacks directlly to the headers with dumps so you can run side exit exhaust out the side of the car just before the rear tires or just them them dump out underneath the car, sounds bad ***, has a nice deep rumble to it, loud as hell at WOT, i have flowtech headers and glasspacks, it came out to like 135 for the system, i put it on my self.
