Don't You Wish You Could Have This Sound

Hehehehe...1970 Firebird Formula with a very built 455 with a .540 lift cam going into headers, X pipe, and Flowmaster Force II exhaust kit.

http://www.pontiacs.org/content/70bird/fbirdflow.mp3

Anybody else got that sound on a ThirdGen? Hehehe

I just heard a car today at the shop and holy crap it was mean sounding. Front of the car was shaking at idle hehe nice solid lifter cam in for that crisp exhaust note. 454 that runs mid to low 11's on the motor and low 10's on the jug in a 70's nova

Mucho thanks for the compliment ! I get many compliments and questions on what all it is composed of from people that hear it in person as well. I have to say that I am extremely happy with my setup ( aside from wanting to go with some Hooker LTs in the future...).

FYI for anyone wondering, that is the Edelbrock TES flowing into a 'Test Pipe' and out through the Flowmaster American Thunder 3" cat-back with dual polished stainless 3" outlets. See my site for more details on the engine and whatnot if you would like....

Ah soso, It sounds fairly mean because of the big tube headers but at wot dosent sound any meaner then my setup on the bird. That car sure does take a long time to wind out, my truck makes that car sound weak but I do admit its got the truck beat at an idle.

Sounds like it was recorded in a tunnel and it doesn't idle very well. I enjoy having my car sound stock at idle. The lift numbers on a cam are the least important, doesn't have anything to do with why it sounds how it does. 1970 is not third gen.

Last I checked, I never said 1970 was a ThirdGen...The last thing this board needs is stuck-up, too-good-for-you jackasses. ****, since when did I ask for a smart *** comment? Everybody else seemed to say something worth a damn...why can't you?

What RPM are you idling that Hot cam at? 650?

http://home.attbi.com/~markolc/xe230-236.mp3 That's my cam at 900 RPM. it sounds better not that I have a test pipe but it used to sound like that.

OHHHHHHHHH How I wish that was my car LOL. That's Scott Schering's car...he's the webmaster at Pontiacs.org, and is a super cool guy with one BAD *** Firebird. He just bought a 73 TA that he is now in the process of restoring like the 70.

Not sure what he's idling at bro. I LOVE the way your car sounds...LOVE it.:hail: :hail: Im all for the big pipe, big cam hollow sound that sounds like it could jump up and punch you in the chest. What kind of engine setup are you running?

Im thinking about just keeping my 79 Trans Am the way it is, and saving up for a First Gen Firebird to build up as a street rod(built 455, of course) since I can't afford my favorite car, the First Gen Camaro.

I can't remember exactly, as I am always playin around with the PROM settings, but I think that is about a 650rpm idle - maybe a bit lower like 625rpm. That clip is a bit distorted as the mic on my laptop is a complete POS, but that is about what it sounds like.

Yours sounds very nice as well! I gotta get me some LTs.........

Whooa there buddy, little discontent? You have absolutely no reason to say that to me, unless some sad personal issues make you feel the need to. If that's the case I'm sorry. I don't mind, but grow up. Attacking someone on the internet is worthless. Sorry if you take what I said the wrong way, but you needn't assume so much or lash out at me.

I'll forget that last sentence you wrote for now, but if you'd like an explanation I'd be happy to give it if I stumble over this post again.

I big phat cam (230+) along with an aftermarket exhaust with headers and no cat will produce a very similar sound. The key to that sound is the cam. My car sounds very similar and I have the Flowmaster Force II catback (FMFII). The thing here that you guys have to remember is that it's the whole car that produces this sound. I had the FMFII on my car stock. I wasn't impressed. I gutted my cats. Wow. That sounded a LOT better. I put headers on. Holy crap - sounds even better. Put a cam in Geezus. Way cool. Put a huge cam in. HOLY CRAP! Muzak to my ears. Now I'm putting long tubes on. It's going to be heaven on earth.
