broken headers???
broken headers???
a friend of mine has an old set of shorty style headers that came off his 91 z28 5.7 tpi and hes said he would give them to me for 20 bux or 50 with install. but the catch is one of the emissions tubes on one side broke off.
he said it will still pass emissions since one side still works or i could try to get them repaired.
my question is do u think this is a good deal..
should i try and fix the headers or just put themon
but will it still pass emissions???

id buy em and let him install them..if it doesnt pass emissions you still have your old manifolds you know you can pass with, but if it passes then hey, you got headers
but will they pass emissions.
the wonderful town of dallas has started using mobile emissions survey crews with highspeed camera that take pics of plates and sends u a ticket in the mail...
so ive gotta pass the tests

wow man that really sucks...im surprised we dont have that in jersey yet. if your emissions arent really tough to pass sometimes you can pass with just a cat if your engine runs clean enough....my friend did it with jersey emissions and theyre hard as he** to pass.

hmm not too sure on that one but i think mark should know...my guess would be no but if you do have to modify it it would just be a new y-pipe

At minimum you will need a new y-pipe. If he's offering to install them for $50, and they don't have a y-pipe, then he doesn't know what he's up against.
The A.I.R. tubes on the headers only function in open loop (when the engine is cold). Therefore, you won't fail emissions "testing" for one of them being broken. However, you could fail visual if so inspected.
