exaust sytem for 84, 2.8l automatic, v6 camaro

I want to replace my old rusted out exhaust system in my 84 camaro. It's an automatic v6, 2.8liters. Now I've heard lots of negative stuff about this type of engine, it being a lemon when it comes to the engine,(no offense to anybody, after all I do own one myself, and love it), but that's just what I've heard. I wanted to see if anyone out there owns a car like mine and or has any good ideas for a performance exhaust for my car. I want to replace the whole exhaust. I suppose that means a catalytic converter as well. I am going to use it for street driving after all, and you would need a cat for that right? Unless I am wrong about what the cat actually does, and that's to control the car's emissions. Unless I'm right maybe one of you could set me straight. So I guess I'm looking at replacing the headers, pipes , cat, and muffler. The only thing I do know I want from this list so far is a muffler with a great deep musclecar tone. Any ideas on what kind of package to get. At this time price is not a concern to me since I'm just trying to gather ideas, since I'm in the dark about what to put on the car. Of course nothing in the thousands range and any good deals maybe in the $350 range, but not limited to that, would be good. I'm also concerned about if I change my exhaust system will it effect my engine in any way negative? And would I have to make any adjustments or modifications to my engine before putting on the new exhaust system? I know that's a lot of questions but I am new at this, and I could sure use some great ideas from some experts out there. Thanks in advance.

get the Dynomax catback exhaust system for the 2.8/3.1's( yes they actually make an exhaust for the V6's) . Its around 150-160 bucks and includes 2 1/2" mandrel bent piping and a super turbo muffler. The engines arent bad, I;ve done quite alot of mods to mine and it runs real strong and has plently of pep, although it doesnt have a modified V8 performance by any means.

------------------
Modified 3.4 Pacesetter headers,Crane cam,K&N cone, cat-back ,shift kit,pulleys.

I;m not qute sure how the dynomax would sound, but all the V6er's who have Dynomax love it. I have a Magnaflow on mine with the headers, at low Rpm's when I rev it, it sounds like a V8, it even cackles back a bit, at high RPM's it sounds like swarm of pissed bee's! I guess the V6 buzz isnt as bad as the rice burner 4 banger fart noise.

ive heard alot of the v6 guys go with dynomax, do they make a dual exit exhaust system? would it still sound great with a 3.4 as i might upgrade later on? so wat suggestion for headers (pacesetter?) and cat?

Re: exaust sytem for 84, 2.8l automatic, v6 camaro

I'm running a Flowtech Red Hot with custom duals out the back. 3" x 12" tips. I bought the car without a muffler, either the guy's wife or son backed up over a curb or something and knocked the stock muffler off. This setup was pretty cheap to have done, $20 for the glasspack and $80 or so for the piping and tips.

I kept seeing camaros running around with tips tucked in a turn downs... figured out real quick why. I've already bent one of my tips trying to get out of a parking lot. Luckily it just kind of flattened the bottom edge of one them, and didn't totally destroy it.
