Does the Hooker Cat-Back provide a deep sound, or is it just abnoxiously loud????

I am interested in the Hooker Cat-Back system. Will be real loud with a lightly modified 5.7 L98, headers, high flow cat, and the Hooker Cat back? I am looking for the real deep tone, not the loud sound that can be heard from blocks away. Is the Hooker Cat-Back right for me? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I love the way the Hooker sounds. Its not too abnoxisouly loud, but with your gutted cat, the car may sound that way afterall.

I had the exhaust on a mid 13sec tpi car, and it sounded great. not to loud, even with a gutted cat. I am seriously considering using the hooker aero chamber on my true dual setup.

I have to disagree with the other guys here.

I have the Hooker, and it is loud and it is not deep. I am pretty sure what you are looking for is the sound the Dynomax Super Turbo. It is fairly quiet from inside the car, but outside it sounds sweet. And when you get on it, it has a deep tone, unlike Hooker or Flowmaster which gets pretty loud and higher pitched then the Super Turbo.

BTW, I have had stock, Super Turbo, Flowmaster, Hooker, and Ansa on my 3rd gens.

Don't you have a single in/out Hooker though Tom? Those are as different from the dual out Hookers as the single out Flows are from the dual outs. Unless I'm mistaken. The sound files of your car w/ the hooker don't really sound much like mine... It actually has some of that patented hollow/tiny sound I usually associate w/ flowmasters... I'm not arguing that the Dynomax setup isn't the one for this person though, since I haven't heard it in person.

I have the Hooker dual out and I consider it to be deep sounding. Hard to quantify I guess, but its deeper than the dual out flowmaster setup on my 86 IROC...

i have a 198 formula350 and i have hooker comp headers with a custom y pipe that flows into the 3" hooker areo chamber cat back. i like the way it sounds. its not to loud but when u get on the fun pedal it sounds great. i do hope it gets a little louder as time goes on cause i cant hardly hear it on the inside of my car at an idle!! what i do like bout it though is that at cruising speeds on the hw i dont have to yell to talk to someone.. just my 2 cents worth...

I beleive i heard somewhere that Tom has a gutted cat. gutted cats always make you car sound hollow and tinny. i just ordered a hooker and should be getting it soon. Ill tell you how it sounds on my car. my mods are in my sig

I have a single in/out Aerochamber on my car. I used to have gutted cats, and the sound files reflect that. I am now running dual Catco cats, and the Aerochamber is still way louder and higher frequency than the Super Turbo, which I also used with cat's.

I have not heard the dual out Aerochamber.

That video is with "test pipes" in place of cat's. Yes, it sounds deep I suppose, at idle. Get on it, and the pitch gets higher.

The Super Turbo, then, I guess is much deeper in contrast. Especially at WOT.

I have the Hooker cat-back, and hollowed convertor, and it sounds deep at idle and cruising, but when you get on it, it really livens up, but is still reasonable on the sound level, I love the sound, it sounds totally different than any other muffler.

I just got my Hooker Cat-back put on today and it is nice and thouty at WOT, the loudest part is at 3000 rpm and at 4000 rpm i cant hear it anymore. it is a little quiet at idle but it takes awhile to break-in. Ive already had a couple of people stare at my car when i rev it(not anyone i know)
