Poll: What is your current exhaust setup, and the gain you got from it...
I'm hoping this helps for the guys who haven't ever changed their exhaust before and what to expect. List any major problems you had and if you liked the sound or not, and your estimated power gains, etc. This should clear some fog
Mine were...
On my '83 Berlinetta:
Stock exhaust manifolds, stock y-pipe, gutted cat, stock intermediate, Flowmaster 80 series. Loud, no apparent increse in performance, Had it installed.
Red '87 Camaro:
Stock exhaust manifolds, stock y-pipe, stock catalytic converter, Dynomax CVX exhaust (after previous owner's flowmaster rusted thru). Ran great, smoother, seemed stronger on the top end, 2nd gear chirp (700-R4).
etc, etc, you get the idea.

Edelbrock TES exhaust manifolds (coated), Removed cat, 3" custom exaust,Flowmaster 80 series. Sweet rumble at idle, very loud at 2500+rpm's but not loud enough to drowned out the radio. Very good performance increase. 25-30hp Slight loss in torque down low when I took the cat off. Adding a resinator I heard cures that problem and u recover what u lost.

My dad switched his TBI exhaust for one from an 85 IROC, and gained 8 HP and 20 TQ at the rear wheels.
I already had a flowmaster exhaust on my car, and when I added SLP 1 5/8" headers, I gained 3 tenths in the quarter mile. I didnt have before and after dynos on that.

84 z-28 camero w/350(no smog junk)performer intake and a edelbrock 750 cfm performer carb, slightly larger cam, and 1.6 roller rockers, summit vacumme advance hei distributer w/ stock mainifolds and stock pipe, added headman headers($93), headman y-pipe($93) flowmaster 3inch cat back for 86-91 350tpi($313.99)results massive traction problems. I have 3.73 rear end w/th350 tranny car leaves about 30-35 foot of black marks on launch and then on the first to second shift lays down about another 10 foot or so, I am real pleased with the performance gains and I love the sound(american thunder system)
Someone help me, what flowmaster should I order for my car. It is a 91rs with a 305 v-8. Has anyone tried flowmaster part number 17234? The guy at flowmaster said it should be louder than the 80 series.

Ive got dual Turbo's hanging under the car and a pair of headman headers. I dont recomend this setup unless you have a welding machine and alot of time or if you are always broke like me. But i noticed ALOT better power (in fact it is nearly the same as stright headers)

How much were the Hedman Hedders, and do they have smog fittings, and if not, how much are they with? I know this is a lot to dump on ya, but I'm lookin' for cheap performance, as my other car has already taken up my paychecks.

1985 Olds 88 parts-gofer/all-around dirt road beater. 307 V8 boat anchor.
Catco high flow cat converter. Edelbrock RPM Series muffler. Removed the A.I.R extension tubes from all eight exhaust ports. Under-the-bumper ram air intake.
It runs a LOT better, especially when the secondaries pop open. The sorry 5A heads still suffocate above 3600RPM, but that boat-anchor 307 revs much more willingly up to that point with those low cost mods.

I have TES Headers and the Hooker Cat-back, all in all, it gave me about .5 or .6 in the 1/4.

I have a 305 with the mods in my signature. With headers and stock 2 1/4in. exhaust with a turbo muffler I ran a 13.8 1/4 mile. With a flowmaster american thunder 3in. cat back system I went down to a 13.5. With the cutouts open on my exhaust I ran a 13.4.

When I first got my car, I had a 3'' Monza Pacesetter catback. It sounded good, but wasnt loud enough for my tastes. So I then had my muffler taken off and had a U pipe put in place to retain the dual exhaust look. I think this resulted in some higher RPM HP, but I'm not quite sure.

My time is in the sig. I don't know what I would have run stock, but the gears are 3.73 and the stall is 2100 rpm. For exhaust, I have SLP 1 5/8" headers to a 3" hi flo cat exiting to the Borla adjustable catback. I would guess the whole exhaust is worth .5 ~ .6 seconds or 35 hp.

for exaust I have headman's camaro 5.7l TPI smog leagal shorty's,headman Y-pipe,"cheap no name" high flow 3way cat 2.5 i/o,Borla 3" adjustable cat back. around town it makes no difference but at WOT the performance is outstanding. a few proffesionals commented on the quality of the headmen headers, even though I painted them and they look like ****,the borla does the job,but is always frowned upon because it was manufactured crooked and looks like ***,I can't find my reciept so I'm stuck with them.on top of that, I scraped the tips on California's many road "dips".most guy's are always amused by the huge 3" escape flange right before the muffler.over all I think this exaust system rocks!!!

I went from a 3" exhaust (stock cat) to a Flowmaster 50 (single...previous owner), to a high-flow cat, 3" mandrel to a Flowmaster 80 with twin tips. I felt a HUGE difference in the bottom end, due to the plugged cat, and it sounds GREAT!! SLP headers, soon, but not soon enough.

I have a series 80 3"flowmaster cat-back set-up coming out from stock manifolds/dual cats. It's the first mod I did on a completly stock Formla. The difference in prformance was magnificent, for a lack of a better word. And the sound was deep, dark and delicious.Turns heads. 10-12 ponnies at least. The best part is it comes out to an un-impressive single pipe. Stupids, now-a-days, think you got a V6 w/that single hole.he he he heeeee.

I was lucky enough to have a friend who works at a body shop, and when a guy smashed up his '00 trans am the insurance company totaled it and befor it left for th scrap yard we stoleth borla cat back off it with the plates that were in the glove box What luck. Unfortunatly the cat back did nothing for my car the only thing i noticed was it looked and sounded cool.
P.S. 4th gen exhaust fits on a third gen it just takes some convincing

Our exhaust set up is in the sig. I don't know what kind of gains there were because it went on at the same time the 350 went in. So any before and after would be from the factory crossfire 305 with manifolds and factory exhaust to the 350 with headers and all aftermarket exhaust.

formula 350 stock manfoilds, dual oem cats, with flowmaster and exuast cutout, i drive around with it open , sounds pretty good, and not to loud untill you stomp on the gas, then it can be quite deafing, but since i been driving around ive had stangs, and vettes pull up aside of me and then back off, dont know maybe they think i got a 406 stuffed inside, i adjusted the timming so kinda sounds like a lobey cam , not bad, as far as cops, past a many and they dont noctice as long as i keep my foot off the gas,
, going to get hi flow cats in a few days, and slp headers in the future im sure i will nocitce a track time diffrence,
