Who has sounds of their cars with quiet mufflers in 3"

I am looking for the quietest muffler I can find, i have the Edlebrock RPM and it is much quieter than the 43083 from Flowmaster. I have backordered a 53083 from them but who knows when it will be here. I just want something quiet. It can even have a single outlet, or a dual outlet on 1 side, I don't care anymore, just quiet. It can even be a stock muffler from another vehicle. I have searched forever and no one can help me around town. And if you have any recordings of your car, loud or quiet, please post them here.
Thanks

If you want quitet, make sure you don't have headers.

Monza Pacesetter!

I just had that on my car with SLP 1 5/8 headers, dual cats and an L98. It was very very quiet... I think thats why it is so cheap because the way I figure it, it's basically a 3'' mandrel bent system with a high flow but totally stock sounding muffler.

I was just curious how quiet you are trying to get it. If you are gooing for cadilac quiet good luck. I think it will be hard to make that motor very quiet because of several factors. One is that you have a lott of cubic inches to muffle, another is I imagin that with heads that big the valves are pretty big also which will make it louder, the larger the cam the louder it will be and yours is not exactly on the small side of the spectrum either, the headers will also make it louder, and lastly the larger the exhaust pipe is the louder it will be. Basically everything you have done to the motor will make it louder, so even with a stock catback it would be louder than stock. Oh, also what is your compression because highter compression also makes more noise.

a neat trick I found was on my '95 Isuzu pickup, no matter what I would do I couldnt quite it to a nice tone, until one day I went to Advanced Auto and bought 2 Thrush turbo mufflers. with one it was stil, rather annoying. but when I put the 2 in succession it was almost silent. I never thaught it would work out, but with 2 mufflers on a single pipe it works great. Then a while back I saw a guy on my classic car and he built some kind of muscle car (don't remember what) but it had a very stout 455. He had dual exhaust with 4 mufflers, 2 on each pipe and that thing was so quite the camera could hardly pick it up. Even though I dont exactly know why you would want it quite, it works great.

If you had 2 mufflers on a single pipe wouldnt that hurt performance pretty bad?

Talk about a restriction though...

Probably a big restriction, however with the right mufflers it wouldnt be bad.

what about to straght thru mufflers, like the bullet style? that would quiet it down more than 1 i guess, and how could there be a restriction if both of the mufflers are straight thru. also ive heard of 4th and 3rd genners just sticking a bullet style muffler before the crossflow one to quiet it down a bit. and you want restriction theres always the old crossflow muffler into two more crossflow mufflers with 4 exhaust tips. lol that would look like this.

headers dont affect sound, at least they didnt on my car and i putt em on after i did the catback, they just made my sound deeper in tone

Well, I want it quiet enough not to set off car alarms and make people look at me. I am looking for a fairly stealthy car, but the problem with running 2 mufflers is that I can't fit it under my lowered car. It must be in that transverse mount, just quiet.

One more thing about the car and the muffler. At the wheels I am making 447hp and 471 Lb.Ft. of torque, and I blew up 2 stock replacement 2.5" in mufflers.

It sounded cool though right up to the point it blew the end caps off!!

I have an Idea. I'll get you a quiet car and you can give me yours with the 447 hp and 471 ft lb at the wheels. Actually, I hear that dynomax mufflers are decently quiet, but I have a feeling that anything is going to be loud on your car.

when I bought my 91 Z28.....Somebody put a 3 inch cat-back dynomax exhuast system on it. I'm not sure what kind of dynomax the muffler was....but......my car was sooooooo quiet....very very quiet. But....I had that all replaced.....much much louder now..

I used to have Dynomax, now I have Flowmaster 40 - why? The Dynomax was too quiet! It does have a nice sound to it though.

I know exactly what you mean....the Flowmaster 40 series sounds really really good on V8 Camaro's...sounds very loud and very powerful......especailly on the 5.7's.....!

As long as the muffler casing is within 30" (overall for the 2 mufflers combined length), you can stick 2 mufflers where the factory one would go such as something similar to this crude drawing....

Thanks for the feedback, my 40 series was loud enough to make my neighbor across the street to come out of his house wondering what the he** is going on. I am going to try the dynomax and also to wait for my specialty flowmaster 53083 to come in.

I may take some of you up on your trades!!! LOL

So what was the verdict? Did you have any luck quieting down your car? I'm going through the same thing, have a '87 GTA w/ a flowbastard that's waayyyy to loud for a near stock car. I'd also like it as quiet as possible (at cruise, it can be as loud as it wants at WOT). It doesn’t have the cat and it does an edelbrock exhaust.
