what would happen if.....

what would happen if i cut some holes or notches in my exhaust pipe before it entered the muffler? i want my exhaust to be louder, but i can't afford to get a good exhaust system. so, would it sound better/louder? would i lose any performance? i know it wouldn't be exactly "legal," but i won't tell if you don't.....

uhh..yeah i wouldnt do that. it will sound like crap. if you would like a loud, performance exhaust setup, just save up. it will sound better and perform better.

man you might as well just buy a cutoff and put that in front of your cat...

if the pipe is good, i wouldnt just go and cut holes in it..

thats a really good idea...install a cut out just after the y-pipe and before the cat. these are loud and i personally love the sound.

Or you could look on Ebay for a muffler. You could probably get one dirt cheap and getting it installed is nothing. Just an alternative to the cut out idea.

Flowmaster muffler

another

another

and another

Sorry guys, I could only find Flowmaster.

damn!

what if i get some glasspack mufflers: do they still make those, and are those legal? if so, then would they be better than a performance exhaust system (in terms of sound and performance)?

yes they still make those. in terms of performance, they will not perform as well as a good performance catback..as for sound.....thats a matter of opinion. they will be louder than your factory exhaust.

ok, i went against everyone's advice and cut a few small notches on the pipe right in front of the muffler. it sounds sweet! it sounds kind of like an LS1 T/A factory exhaust, and i really like those. it's not really deeper, but it's louder and it kinda raps up at the end. i like it, but if i ever get tired of it then we can repair it with that spot weld crap (or whatever that stuff is called). so anyways, i'm happy, and if i lost performance then i can't tell (it's just a throttle bodied 305 so it's not like i had a whole lot to start with, right?)
