Header Plug instead of Cut-Out?

Hey guys... I was watching American Graffitti a few weeks back, and i got this idea... well, for those who have seen the movie, you know that the guy with the yellow '32 Ford Coupe races with open headers near the end of the movie, and he does this by removing his header plugs. Well...... i got a similar idea for my Camaro and was wondering if its worth pursuing or just a waste of time? It looks to me like it would work pretty well like a cut out, but it would really be alot more like open headers because it is so short. I got the idea when i was thinking about how i could (cheaply) get some shorty headers mounted to a more-or-less stock exhaust system, Y-pipe included, and this just sorta "appearied" in my head and the idea has grown on me
The idea for capping the open header section i drew here was to have the shop weld on a header flange at the bottom of each of these pipes (1 per header, 2 total) and i could just cut a plate out of some thick sheet metal to bolt down with a header gasket in between the pipe and the plate, then if i wanted to go to open headers, i would have 6 bolts (3 per side) to remove.

What do you guys think?

That is a VERY crude drawing, but I think you guys get the general idea of what i am getting at, right?

I thought that was a cut-out?

Yes, that's basically a cut-out.

A 3" version where the y-pipe bends to go to the cat is a nice place for one. Would probably be just as effective as one in each down-pipe, and certainly a lot easier to uncork.

Yea, one of those would go onto each header... anyone think this is worth trying?

What's your intended use?

I maintain that a single cut-out in the location I describe above would give you all the power that the individual cut-outs you propose would provide, while being a lot easier to uncap.

It would be capped most of the time and would just be there got the cool factor... but it would be uncorked every once in a while

I know it is just a "crude drawing" but wouldnt it cause a tiny problem. Pic one is what I am talking about. Pic two is what I thought would be better, but harder to do. Let me know if I am retarded(only about this topic, I already know I am about everything else )

Actually, thats exactly what i was trying to draw.. the header cut our being right beside the turn away for the y-pipe... shows my artistic skills, huh?
