difficulty with the clearance of TES headers

I have put the exhaust system and the cat on with minimal difficulty. Now I am having major problems with the installation of the headers. Both stock headers are off, but the TES headers are hanging over the valve covers(pass side) The driver side is getting hung up over the steering column (where is the location to disconnect the column, lamen's terms)Does anyone have any tips? The book I'm using (hayes) is not of any help with looking up the terms I am looking for. Do you think I should just tow it to shop, or is this something that a first timer can do? All I have to do is fit the two new ones in. PLease,if possible give really details feedback. Thanks

You may have to pull the valve covers off for the pass side or try to squeeze them in from underneath the car. As for the other side, you may need to unbolt that side from the motor mount and lift that side of the engine up an inch or two.

I haven't done headers yet, but this seems to be the general consensus from this board. If anyone can help anymore I'd appreciate it because I'll be doing the same thing in another month.

Just finished my install last weekend. First move the brake lines as far from headers as you can get. That's my problem now. I am not going to take that blasted header off to get in there to them. I will have to come up with another way. To get them on.
1st take the bolt out to the driverside motor mount and jack up the motor about until you can get that header in there. Mine went right in after doing that.
2nd repeat process with passenger side motor mount.

You may wish to change to energy suspension urethane motor mounts while your messing with them. I didn't because I plan on replacing my whimpy L03 next year.

Where's the safest place to jack up the motor? He did ask for lamen's terms and that's something I'm not too sure about either.

your pick-up unit is about 1/4" from the bottom of the pan.....DO NOT.....hang on let me repeat once more.....DO NOT use just the jack stand on the oil pan...you WILL bend it and possibly break you pick-up unit.....get a thick, wide and long board and distribute the weight across the whole of the oil pan.....there is alot less chance of bending it and if you do it will not bust the pick-p unit

I used a 2x4 and planted one end against the oil pan rail/block. You think 3rd gen headers are hard......
Try a Mustang II.
