Catco Cats, Are they any good??

I am about to put the hooker aero chamber 3" exhaust on my car. I don't have a cat and am going to get one, I was looking at a Catco one Summit sells, are they any good. I want something that won't rob HP and sound.

Catco's are pretty good for the money. They are more high flow than stock. If you want excellent sound, buy a Randon Technologies cat. Delivered they are about $220. On the dyno, there is no difference with running one vs. a straight pipe. AWESOME SOUND!!!!!

I have a Catco and it is being removed and a straight pipe put in it's place.

The 3" in/out catco and the 3" Flowmaster Force II system (single out) made my car sound just as good as my friends car with a complete dynomax exhaust (headders, cat, cat-back) with the flow 80s series muffler.

Yeah, that Catco ones are great for the money, I couldn't justify spending $220+ on a Random Tech one. So I go the Catco with flows almost as good for 1/2 the price!

I got my 3" Catco CTO-6007 for like $51 from summit, but it diddnt fit the hooker cat-back #HOK-16822 so i had to cut the flange off. sounds awesome, definate SOTP difference

If you want the best cat you can get, use a Car-sound 3in high-flow cat. Random tech cats are made with car sound parts and dont hold up as good. MTI uses Car Sound cats on all of their cars, even the 422ci bored/stroked LS-1's (the street legal cars anyways). My Car Sound cat ran me $185.00 installed. Cat-co is good for the price (cheap!!!) but dont flow as well and wont give as good emissions as a Car Sound or Random tech. But then again, what do I know!

I just had the Hooker catback put on my '91 and the guy at the shop said not to bother even putting the Catco on the car that the factory one was just fine and probably was a better cat then the Catco anyway. The guy at Summit even said the Catco was only a little better than the factory unit.

The car has 100,000 on it so I figured it would need to be changed at this point, he said that the factory unit was designed to last for the life of the car. So what do they think the life of the car is or how do you tell when your cat is going bad?

If you search theres a link showing dyno proven graphs that car sound cats flow more than random tech and the car sound can be had for less than $130

Well when I go back to NY we have Ca emissions standards there so a full LEGAL exhaust is what I'll take on my car. I have dual Catcos and love 'em. I think personally they are pretty efficient. A little pricey though......

oh yeah i have a cat co cat and if theres another cat out there that can pass better then mine on emmissions id like to see it. let me run out to my car and get my slip.

okay back and this is for the state of NJ. i have no emmission controls on the car excupt for the Catco $60 cat.

Emmission Results:
GAS......................STANDARD.......READING...RESULTS
NOx......................1323............... 219...........PASS
HC........................173 ................ 11 ............PASS
CO% ....................1.63 ...............0.07.......... PASS
CO2% .........................................15.3
o2%..............................................0.0
RPM..................................................0

TEST...........................RESULTS
Tank Pressure ...........N/A
Gas Cap..................... PASS
Purge......................... N/A
Tampering..................PASS
Visiable Smoke...........PASS

this was my state inspection paper i got from passin on 06/15/2002 at 9:00:46 AM

just shows u dont need a really expensive cat to pass emmissions and i took this to the free state inspection staition

Any new catalytic converter should suffice to pass emissions or it would not be sold.
