Single to Dual Cat Conversion

I have a single cat right now...will be getting SLP 1 3/4" Headers.....I need some breathing room as well as not having to worry about passing the sniffer test..so I thought that dual cats would be the way to go...Im guessing I need to get the SLP Dual cat headers....but what else will I be needing? I heard that SLP doesnt come with the actual y-pipe...just the connections to the y-pipe...could i just have an exhaust shop make one up for me? And how do I mount the extra cat? and what about the extra AIR tube? Where Do i get all this stuff? THanks

the SLP headers don't come with the actual y-pipe, they come with pipes that go upto the cats, you could have a shop can make the y for you. What happens with the air tube is it starts out as one tube and then goes into this little piece and comes out as two tubes, a shop could pry handle that too if you couldn't find any parts anywhere.

Re: Single to Dual Cat Conversion

So not too satisfied with the answer to this so far. There is another thread somewhere in this section where someone actually compared their track times with both single and dual cats and consistently pulled markedly better times. So I am sold and converting. My question is, where do I find the air tubes and y pipe to convert my L98 from a single cat to a dual cat car.

Re: Single to Dual Cat Conversion

About 5 yers ago I got the Catco direct replacement setup for my 91Z. It was a sweet setup for decent price. It goes from the manifolds back. I ended up cutting the Y-off and used the flowmaster Y collector. I did this cause I welded a flange to the Y collector and flanged the SLP loudmouth catback. This makes it easy to pull the exhaust.

Re: Single to Dual Cat Conversion

With a quality aftermarket converter, there is really no need for dual cats. Un less you have a SERIOUS engine that truly needs the extra airflow. Otherwise, all your doing really, is adding extra weight to the car.
