Q:Which do you think is better? Duals or Single?

theres been alot of talk about header size and everyone wanting dual custom exhaust, and i am intersted in both. what i want to know is some opinions on which do you think is better true duals or a big single, like 3 inch or so. ok let me re phrase that, do you think the trouble of duals is worth the perfromance gain over single exhaust. i have seem some pretty fast LT1 and LS1 cars running single exhaust, however i am not sure on how large the pipe was. i am putting a 400 in my bird, and have decided to do with 1 5/8 long tubes, next i am trying to decide if i should try to have true duels ran, or have a y pipe made into one 3in or 3.5in exhaust pipe. thanks for any opinons.

If u can find someone in your area who can do the duals go for it. If no than I would recommend a single 3.5" or 4" from mufflex.
I got a 400 in my car with a single 3" which I'm not too impressed with as the car orginal had dual 2 1/4" and some shop messed it up when trying to put dual 2.5" in. The car just doesn't feel the same any more. So I'm going with the 4" system.

If youre going with a 400 with long tubes...why not get the 1-3/4 primaries? I am a full believer in true duals. Ive got dual 3" and love it. It sounds much better than single exhaust. It picked my car up about .6 in the 1/8. A buddy of mine put it on his 95 z-28 and it picked his car up about the same. If single exhaust is so good, why dont corvettes, mustangs, and all these guys who have fast cars use it?

Depends on how much your engine is putting out... My new engine is going to require dual 3 inch Thank goodness spintech mufflers are small

Damn, I think me and Twistedwedge are from the same planet- the hate wimpy exhaust planet. Thats a good example, Twistedwedge, over a half second improvemant - with a real exhaust system - Thats what I'm saying! Dont give up free horsepower!

I personally dont think its a matter of single vs. dual, but a matter of the right size pipe. You need to size the exhaust for the power level of your engine. If you have 400hp you should be running 1 3/4" headers with a single 3.5" or dual 2.5" pipes - or bigger!

Single 3 or 4".

Its the only "correct" exhaust for a 3rd gen.

If you have an all out race car, then 3" dumped at the axle is adequate.

I'm so sick of this topic....It seems to come up once a month.

True duels it tuff o a third gen.To close to the fuel line. And not emmisions legal, hot converter near floor pan is not a nice.About the best system to use is Mufflexs Ypipe that uses the hooker longtubes, this is the best setup for a high output motor.Forget the true duels.Let this topic die already

dynomax makes headers for a small block in f-bodies that are 2 1/4" @ the collector run that to your cross over then to a 3"dia pipe down the shaft then split it @ the rear. cheap and easy..
