hooker aerochamber
does anybody have one of these hooked to a 5.7L and have a link to some of their soundclips? I think flowmaster is a little too loud for me. I would like something that is deep like the stock exhaust, but doesn't make too much more sound. just want better flow and that low window rattling effect. if you don't have a sound clip, opinions would be nice too. thanks...
89IROC5.7,
Although it was not on a Camaro, the Aerochambers in my opinion sound much better then the Flowmasters. They where on my Blown Nova and they where much deeper then the flowmasters as well as resonating less. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks,
Joe

I have them on my car and love them. At first they were very quiet but now they're pretty loud. At idle/cruising its not loud at all but when you get on it they let out a pretty loud nice sounding "growl" I also like it when people go "what exhaust is that?" and I tell them and they look at me funny and go "oh, cool" ...very original.

I have a Hooker exhaust system on my stock 305 with headers. The timing is advanced to 11 (carbed no ecm) so it growls nicely at idle/cruise but when the motor comes on it makes one hell of nice roar. I like it a lot and I expect it will sound even better when I get a 350 in the car.
Also, their system is not that expensive and it's built solid although some people say the tips rust however mine haven't yet.

I just installed a Hooker AreoChamber on my 89 TPI HO305. It was a stock location direct replacement muffler. 2 1/2" in and dual 2 1/4" out. My car did not have a muffler or tail pipes on it when I bought it (rotted off) so I cannot compare it to the stock exhaust. All I can say is it is very quiet. I can hardly hear it. I LOVE IT. However, I have a 3" Hooker Maxi-Flow on my single shot exhaust on my Turbo Buick and I am use to not being able to hear myself think. I love the stealth sound of the Hooker AreoChamber on my Trans Am.

A tip for the tailpipes rusting, because it won't take long for them to rust, is put a coat of wax on them. I have the whole cat back on my car and love the sound. It's not that loud at idle but when you get on it sounds way better than flowmaster.

I have a 3" in/out glasspack on my car and it sounds really, really good. And mean!!! Don't get a blowmaster. Everyone has them and they don't even sound that good.

The tailpipes that came with my Hooker Cat-Back were completely rusted after about a week so I sanded it all off and painted them black. The I-pipe looks brand new with no rust and the tips have no rust either. The tailpipes also didnt have the same hook-ups for the stock hangers. Maybe they sent me the wrong ones...

I've got the hooker cat-back on my 350 GTA and it sounds real mean. Houls when you get on it and even idling sounds good. Not as loud as flowmasters at idle, but has that "That sounds awesome! What size engine do you have" sound. My tips are rusted too. Do the hooker tips they sell in jegs rust like these? But all in all I love the sound (and I have a cat)

Illegal TA:
I have a high-flow cat on it now because I've got to get the car through emissions one more time and after that it won't ever be tested again under our laws.
Until we got the emissions crap a few years ago I ran it with stock exhaust and a pipe instead of the cat. The stock exhaust sounded a lot louder and nicer w/out the cat. I think it went faster too but I have nothing to back that up.
So, to answer your question. Yea I think it my car as it is now with the headers and Hooker cat-back etc. would sound even better w/out the converter. As I've said in my post above I like the way it sounds now but I'd like to have more of that same sound - ie remove the cat.
