I dont want to break your heart but measure the intermediate pipe. I had bought one of those systems too and it only had 2 1/2 in pipe, smaller than stock.

im assumin NY emissions is similar to NJ? total assumption. i would just keep the cat as is, unless it is totally used up then replace it with a new one (freer flowing if youd like ...catco, random technologies are two brands) keeping the cat doesnt kill power the way people make them out to and it could save you some hassle in the future. if hes right about the pipe diameter, you might wanna try and sell that cat back , i bet you could get what you payed seeing as you got it on discount.
while your 305 doesnt seem to be crankin out loads of power, you would still want a 3 inch pipe. good luck!
welcome to the boards and the wonderful world of thirdgens!!

considering that i only have a 305 and i dont plan on doin too many upgrades on this engine(exhaust, open element, etc.), a 2.5" pipe would be ok right? i mean i am saving most of my money for a new engine so then id upgrade all the pipes to 3". but for now this could suffice right?

thanks

I think that 2.5" pipe is fine for a mild 305. Which 305 do you have? If its an LG4 then 2.5" will be plenty. I have a dynomax on mine. It sounds better than stock but its very quiet. I ordered a Flowmaster 40 series from summit yesterday, so that should solve that problem

Yes. The cat inlet is only 2-1/4", so the restriction will still be there even though the Dynomax I-pipe is 2-1/2".

It wasn't a bad sound at all, just quiet. You can hear it at WOT, but its not horribly loud. I was very happy with the sound, just not loud enough for my tastes.
