edelbrock header questions

i ordered an edelbrock "tubular exhaust system" for my 1985 camaro iroc-z. (305) the directions are very vague and i was wondering whether or not i should use some kind of sealant on the provided header gaskets....

I don't think it's necessary. I've had my TES's on for about a month now without any problems.

No need for sealent. Mine have been on for over 2 years now without a problem. The first month I just kept checking on the header bolts to keep them snug and haven't touched them since.

tes headers

ok, i wont use any sealent, thanks. my tes kit came with 8 short screws(black), 2 longer (black, maybe 2"), and 4 silver screws about 2". the kit also came with 4 regular washers, and 8 lock washers. also, i think about 4 short spacers and maybe 4 more. so far, i have the headers on, using the 8 smaller black screws with lock washers on each. i didnt put any spacers on becuase the screws were to small for the spacers. on the very end of each header, is an open hole, or half cirlce. for that i used the smaller screws with lock washers and regular washers. i'm not sure whether that is correct or not, and the directions dont really say. i dont know what to do with the 2 longer black screws and i'm asuming that the silver long screws are for the rest of the assembly, not the headers themselves(y-pipe). really all i need to know is if i have used the provided hardware correctly. if you have the tes system, please let me know how you did it. lastly, how much should the header bolts be torqued down? any info would help, thanks.

This is how I did mine. The long black bolts I used with the spacers where the alternator and A/C bracket metal rods bolt to. The short bolts and lock washers for the headers. The silver bolts and regular washers for the Y pipe.

It's not really necessary to torque them down. Just tighten 'em real good, but not so much that you may end up breaking one. You'll likely have to retighten them later again anyways.
