Howdy there, On my 1 3/4" off road SLP's I had heard that an old engine mount could cause that, so when I put mine in I used new mounts as well. It improved the situation but it still rubs when I turn since the column is kind of an oval shape, other than that I'd say take the column off and grind it a little as I'm going to have to do. I think next time I get the chance I'll probably use Energy Suspension engine mounts also. Those are the only two choses I know of though, new mounts or grinding the column, unless you want to dent your header. Take care now.

Mine did to even with the energy suspension bushings. You just have to take it out and grind it to make it work.

Loose the steering column bolts, move the column, and tighten them back up. Problem solved. No need to dent or grind.

thanks fellas i ended up taking the bolts out of the column and wallowing the holes out some cause it wouldnt slide over enough. it sounds great with the new headers and dual 2 1/2 with flowmasters.

That's exactly what I did with mine. And it solved the problem too.

Use a late 80's truck motor mount on the drivers side. It moves the engine to the passenger side enough to clear the column.

On a side note. I had my car corner weighted and 59% of the car weight is on the drivers side without me in it. I think it could use the motor moved to help some of that out. 3388 pounds. 91 Z-28 with leather.

I used a file to elongate my steering column bolt holes and moved the column over. Looks great and works perfect!

I tried that and it did absolutely jack. More importantly, I did a lot of sketching on paper and have come to the idea that this is generally a bad idea from a driveline point of view (vibration and u-joint life, especially).

i did a search and found this thread from back in may..i have a few questions...

this is the first i have heard of "moving teh steering column". can somebody elaborate on this a little? i was just planning on grinding down the steering shaft a little, and POSSIBLY getting new motor mounts, but if i can "move"the steering column that sounds like a MUCH better deal to me.

any info would be great. thanks.
