Dynomax exhaust system?

Hey guys Im thinking of getting the Dynomax exhaust system, its a full exhaust fomr the manifolds back w/ 3" mandrel bend tubing and a super turbo muffler. my question is how well does it fit up to the stock system? I would get a custom system done by a local shop but they all want upwards of $500-600 dollars and thats jsut not gonna happen. Thanks for any help

I know this isn't really a question to help, But I was going for the exact same exhaust system you were going for an I was quoted $350, and that was labour and everything... in Canadian, lol

Sorry I can't help man, But best of luck to you!!!

yeah it kinda sucks, I asked the guy a couple months ago, and he gave me a quote of $250 w/ a cat and FM 80 series. He bought like a whole truck load of 3" pipe for pretty damn cheap thats why he oculd go so low, I come back to him friday and he says $425!!! im like hoolllyyy sh*t so there goes that lol.

for $425 he should be making you a dual exaust system. Just buy a catback. $260 Hooker. You can buy all of dynomax's pipes for about the same and make your own catback. Their catback for 3rdgens is only 2.5"

Tas,
I thought the one for the H.O. 305 and the TPI 350s w/single cat was 3". Maybe not.

But then again you've been posting the PN for the 3" pipe, haven't you. I'll just sit down now.

Ex. Pipe is sold OD. All fittings are ID. So if you are speaking of the ID of the flared end, then that's right. The ID of that flared end will slip over the 3" OD of the pipe.

On average, the wall thickness of an ex. pipe is ~1/16". Or .0625". Since there are "two sides" on a pipe then there total will be 1/8" or .125".

Therefore the ID of the actual pipe that you have should be 2 7/8" or maybe slightly smaller if the pipe wall is a little thicker because of any "aluminized" process. Even then I doubt if it's smaller than 2 13/16"

Check it with a dial caliper or a snap guage to be sure. This can help out when figuring area of the pipe for maximum flow.

I do exhaust work in my spare time so I do know all of the ID and OD stuff, I just didn't want anyone to get confused if Dynomax says it's 2 3/4.

You don't need a 3" cat back for a 305. 2.5" will do fine, especially with a headers/no cat/2.5" exhaust set up or a headers/high flow cat/2.5" exhaust.

just installed the 2 piece 3"Dynomax today and 17227 Ultra flow welded muffler..I replaced my old 2.5" Dynomax cat-back..altogether it sounds likea superturbo but with a deeper tone and louder..it hums a very low tone at idle..Not like the superturbos quiet gargling and hiss

Me too.

I guess I was just posting that toward everyone that doesn't know, that's all.

I didn't know that my muffler had a SNAKE IN IT!!!!!!

I've always wondered why my (now gone) 95 Blazer Dynomax cat-back kit came with the Ultra Flow muffler, and it was ~$100, and the kit for my car came with a Super Turd-o that cost me ~$150. Made no sense to me. I guess it's because of the crossflow muffler?

Ticked me off because the Blazer (4.3L V6) sounded deeper and stronger than my car.

So should I shove a Mongoose in my muffler then?

Cody I think the confusion might be that 2-3/4 would be a stock replacement exaust system and not a catback. Its probably their stock replacement system for a 350 TPI.

Is the dual cat dynomax OK to use on a '92 5.7 Z??? I've heard 3" as the standard # but need more opinions. Thanks.

No those dummies at Dynomax use 2 3/4 mandrel-bent int. pipe with the PN #17495 super turbo *catback*. I researched it verrryy deeply. The 3" int. pipe is used with the drivers side single outlet (cant remember the PN for that catback, never considered that system)

They don't have a 3" catback anymore but they have all the pieces to make one. Their catback is 2.5" with 3" cat flange.

Like I said, you don't need a 3" cat back. It doesn't matter. 2.5" will flow just fine, especially with the Dynomax Super Turbo muffler...

But most aftermarket exhausts have a 3" I pipe anyways, so it doesn't matter. I'd say forget Dynomax and go Hooker if you can afford it :P
