exhaust cut out
exhaust cut out
I guess I should have asked this before.. but I ordered a 3" exhaust cut out that goes just before the cat. should be good for those quiet country roads! anyone know if opening the cut out makes any noticeable differance? also should the cut out part be pointing down? I know there's a plate just above my cat for heat..

uh oh...i can see this one getting moved pretty quickly....
i think it depeneds a lot on your current exhaust setup. do you have a pretty restricitve cat-back? the more restrictive it is, the better your gains will be from the cutout.

I wouldn't put it pointing down, what if you go over a speed bump or something similar, it might snag on something and really mess things up. I would have it facing out towards the passenger side.

Hey, when you put that cutout in and open it up IT"S GONNA BE LOUD AS SH*T!!! You will get pulled over if you run it open all the time, make no mistake. However... a neat little trick to relieve some of that backpressure without all the noise for city driving is (if the cutout opens by removing a plate w/ wingnuts on it) run it with a nickle wedged in the plate to keep it open a little.

They might sound good when open (which u can't do everywhere) but when they are closed they must not be good for flow at all and direct some of the exhaust into the other pipe. Correct??

A friend of mine has a cutout on his 95 Z28 and it's suprisingly quiet. I mean obviously it's very loud, but nothing like open headers, it sounds great and the only time police would notice is if your running at WOT with it open. but if the cops catch you doing that, noise pollution isn't going your biggest ticket

I wouldn't want a restriction on the street, what I run on the track is what I want to run on the street.

Exactly, unless you get the cable operated kind so you can open it from inside. But I've heard mixed reviews on those kind.
haha, who needs a cut out, I just unbolted my intermediate pipe lol
And since my engien sucks A$$, its not amazingly loud, so I wont get pulled over, and also it s a 305, prolyl soudn louder on a stock 350.

Something about the cable breaking or melting, something like that. I had bought the non electric pull cable once, before my cat-back, but it's made of cast iron which has to be brazed on plus it only fits up to 2 1/4 piping.

After I had my motor installed the guy didn't tighten the I pipe clamp. I punched the gas and pulled onto the highway, all of a sudden there was this loud as he!! noise. I thought oh crap, I broke something. After looking under the hood, I looked under the car, I was like cool, open headers. I drove home and put it back on. Before I had it welded on, one day leaving work I pulled it off the y-pipe and drove home. As I turned into my street I passed this rice burner, and I just had to throw a rev. That's why I had bought the cut out.
