I need some clarification on what cat I would need to go from my y-pipe(3") to either a Hooker or Flowmaster catback. I'm under the impression that the ends of the I-pipes attach to the cat via a flange, so the universal cats won't work without cutting and welding. And the direct fit cats have AIR tubes, I removed the AIR system. Would it be ok to just cap off the AIR tube on the cat or thread a pipe plug into it?

Thanks in advance.

if you removed the A.I.R. system, you must not have emisions to worry about, why not just run a test pipe instead of a cat.

You know I think he should do that too, but I don't think they can sell them "Test Pipes" any more. Thats why a lot of guys gut their cats. You can't even get a muffler shop to make one up for you. Big fines I guess .

No place will do it for you if you ask them "HEY will you put a pipe in place of my cat????"

Get the catback, then take your cat off and role in open headers. They wont let you leave like that. They will stick a pipe in place for you no questions asked. They cannot let a car come out without anything BUT if a car comes in with a cat it leaves with a cat.

Well, we do have emissions, basically just a sniffer test and a gas cap test, no visuals whatsoever. If your car is 96 and newer, they don't even do that, just go off of OBD2 somehow. Anyway, I want to keep a cat on it. So blocking off the AIR tube is okay, that answers my question.

Thanks,

You can also search around for the right shop, I had a test tube custom bent for me to connect the y pipe to the hooker cat back. I think it cost me $35 from an import shop none the less. Those sneeky import buggers....

If you don't have to have it, loose it. Thats my opinion of cats. Im more of a dog person anyways
