Question about coated header temp

searched with no luck. provided the engine is running fine, around what temp do the tubes get on ceramic coated headers? i know uncoated ones have to be hotter than manifolds. but i'd like to know if coated ones will run cooler (and by how much), or at the same temp as manifolds.

I think the coated will run cooler than stock manifolds, but I am not 100% sure on that. When I got my jet hot video they said after only a few minutes you can grab them with your bare hands. Can't do that with stock manifolds.

when i first got my engine running i did a heat test. i used a temp gun. you point it at something, pull the trigger and then it tells the temp. i belive mine were around 400 degrees F.

While the engine is running, the coated headers will reach around the same tempature as the uncoated headers, but they will dissapate the heat much faster. They will, with adiquite air flow, run a few degreese cooler than uncoated headers. Where you relly notice the difference is after running the engine, the coated headers will loose the heat much faster than manifolds or uncoated headers. With my edelbrocks, after around ten to fifteen minutes, I can touch the headers just fine.

that sounds a lot less than manifold temp.

i really don't remember. for some odd reason i thought it was 400. if my dad can bring home that temp gun from his work this weekend, i'll test it again. they get very hot, i know that

well i want them to run cooler while the car's runnin so the temp of the motor itself will go down a bit. i noticed that my temp gauge runs higher now since the install, although not by much, but i figure if the tubes run at the same temps as the manifolds with the coating then my engine temp should go down also. any of you guys experience higher engine temps with coated headers?

well my dad brought home the gun and today i tested it out. i let the car warm up to around 200 degrees( when the fans kicked on). the hottest they got was a little over 400 degrees. i didn't actually dive it. it just sat in my garage until the fans went on. hope this helps

400 is definitely a lot less than what they must run uncoated. time to send mine to Jet Hot.

thanks!

Jet Hot coating keeps the heat inside. I would be cooler on the outside & somewhat hotter than uncoated on the inside.
