Just got true duals installed with hooker longtubes

Damn it sounds mean. I went from hooker shorties and Flowmaster cat back(3" single) to Hooker longtubes, 3" pipe to 3"in and 3.5" out X pipe, 3.5" Dynomax Bullets mufflers. I am going to do dome testing nest week and see what difference it makes (probably very little on motor) shooting 175-200HP N2O. Ground clearnace in very good. I have went over every speed bump in this town with NO problems. I will try and post some pics here pretty soon.

Looks good man! Kinda like mine is about to be...Nothing beats true duals! I'd expect a decent gain w/ LT's and the x. Both should help your torque numbers, as well as help the gases get out faster at rpms.

later, justin...

duals

It is all custom. I took it to the local shop and told them what i wanted. He is a damn good muffler man. The X-pipe came off my friend 95 Cobra(DR. Gas). The x-pipe had 3.5 " pipe front and rear, but my shop can only been up to 3". I wish they had mandrel bent(full flowing) bends, but this is more than enough for what i have NOW.lol I love the way a X pipe sounds over a H-pipe. It sounds like it just gained 300HP.(wished it had of lol) I figured on the motor(it may help alittle, but on the bottle i'm hoping for alot. I changed from the same set up to just a true duals(using shorties still) on my 85Iroc a few years ago and gained 4mph in the 1/8(on motor) It did have a hot 406.. but i hope I can gain a few mph(3-4mph) on the bottle and up my best from 95mph to around 99 or 100mph . I know it will be alittle tuff though. I just recieved my 225HP and 250 HP pills. I might try them out before to long(after i upgrade the stock Delco pump..Its on the way).

My goal is to also run a 6 in the 1/8(basically like it is). I would like to run a 6 just using a 175-200Shot. This damn weather is not helping my chances. It hit 100 degrees for the first time this year.

forgot

I bought the headers off a fellow thirdgen'er and the X-pipe was a buddy deal. The muffler shop was a another buddy deal$150.00 I probably have under $400 in the whole exhaust.

Nice setup man !
though u have no ground clearance
proplems since ur car sits high due
to big rear tires.
A lowered car would have problems..
cant wait to see ur results though

congrats !

the race

The headers were a PITA. I think my mounts are worn and needed replacing. I had a big problem with 2 tubes on the passenger side. I had to move my Knock sensor, remove my oil cooler(for now),Mini starter, Cut some of the k-member(by a-arms).

The main reason I went to all the trouble and changes is for a race coming up at the local track.

Anyway, I live in a small town and there are a few 3rdgener's out here. It has come down to a guy I know(82 looks like a 92) and me for the quickest 3rdgen in town. he has a 355, 750cfm ,solid roller250+ @.050, Dart Pro-1's, T350, 3.73, 2 stages of N2O. He is a dumb *** when it comes to tuning and working on cars. His dad is someone else I can't stand. He thinks his car is the S*** and is better than anybody else. I heard him say he had the fastest 3rd gen in town.

He car does not leave well. He is also scared of N2O. He leaves on 125 and then uses the 2nd stage175 after the leave. the best he has run is 7.21 . He claims he only barley used the 2nd stage on that pass. He also run that pass a few months ago(winter) and at a better track.

I just ran 7.28(2 weeks ago) at our poor track. I also did it using my shorties and 3" cat back. I also came up with a SHORT Belt to bypass the PS pump(at the track only). The smog pump is already off of it. I installed a cooler stat(160), Walbro Pump(255) and 225HP/250HP N2O pills.

I have until June 21st(the race day). I am debating over the holley stealth ram before then. I am little worried about how it would run. I don't have time or ways for a custom chip. I am afraid of changing to much and not having enough time to test it out and get the bugs worked out of it.

Anyway I won't go on anymore. I feel like i don't have anything to lose. Like bring a knife to a gun fight.

PS He doesn't know I ran 7.28. He still thinks i only run 7.60's..lol

tires and exhaust

the exhaust cost me Around $150 for them to fit my X-pipe,mufflers, and redue the tubing i already had.

Front 15x5's with 26" sportmans
15x8(4.5" backspacing) with 28X11.5 ET Streets. They are a hair taller and about 1"narrower than the27x11.5 Hoosiers. I think it would look better if I had 28X12.5 ET streets.

How can you take off-ramps and on-ramps at 70mph with those front skinnies?! j/k Car looks awesome. Is it mainly a straight line car or is it setup for dual purpose?

The Man:- was it an oil cooler that had a sandwich mount section between the oilfilter and the bit above, if that makes sense? What are you planning to do to sort it? I'm having that problem just now as the oil lines from that sandwich plate come into direct contact with the headers.

Thanks for any help!

Go to this sticky subject. I believe it deals with the oil cooler. It either has to be removed, or modified. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=148210

I like the paint on the car and all, but dear lord look at the height of the car. To install those pipes and have the down tube you need to fit a body bag under the wheel well.

The Man, what x-member are you using and auto or manual? I put in my TKO600 with a Spohn with the driveshaft safety loop, doesn't leave much room to run under. Curious on your routing, looks straight under the xmember

At the time I had the stock crossmember (A4) and had plenty of room. I switched over to the Spohn Torque Arm(with loop) and I had to lose the x pipe. I am changing trans(PG) and instead of buying a spohn, I might have one custom made and attach the loop using my subframe connectors so I can reinstall the x pipe.
With the stock crossmember..ground clearance was fine(went over speed bumps with a problem. With the spohn loop on it..just to low.

With just bullets(sounds ok I guess..really don't like it), but with the x pipe...BAD ***.

I have some video with and without the xpipe. You can tell a big difference.

yes and no

we lined up twice...the first time his waterpump went out in the burnout box..then the next time I broke 9 teeth off the ring gear.... We never line up again. I was having N2O problems the first 2 races, but I tried to race anyway. After I figured out my N2O problem he wouldn't line up against me. He moved out of town, but his car is still he at his parents..he just got his cage put in it. I am redoing my car now...HE IS IN FOR A SUPRISE!! When we both get them done..then I will finish it.

I gotta quick question. How did you get the exhaust tubing to clear the trans x-member? I'm doing my own duals but am having problems trying to figure out where to route the tubing with long tube headers.

exhaust

if you use the factory crossmember and have 26" front runners and 27" or taller rear tires you can run the pipe under the crossmember. When I put some 26 on the rear it did drag on some places..with the 28 I had...no problem with speed bumps or anything.

crossmember

i forgot, if you use a spohn crossmember, the exhaust will me lower cause how the crossmember is made and even worse with a DS loop(the one that comes on the spohn crossmember).

I'm trying not to hijack this thread. I have a spohn xmember with ds loop and Hooker 2210's. Here's what I was planning on doing for a true dual route around the xmeber. BUT, I'm going to use some drgas.com oval tubes until I get into the ds tunnel, then transition back to full round.

nice

when i change to the spohn X member, I had to loose the x -pipe. I went ahead and run the 3" pipe under the x member. Ground clearance still wasn't a problem, but it was lower than before. I probably going to make my own x member for my PG and install a DS loop straight to the car instead of it mounting to the x member, so I can reinstall the x-pipe.
