What Is The BEST 3" Cat Back System? Opinions PLEASE!!

1992 Camaro RS convertible 305 TBI automatic................

I am considering purchasing a 3" cat back exhaust system. I was just browsing through Summit's selection and was presented with a fairly wide range of products. The question is whether one system is better than the other.

Excluding the Borla system (too pricey $$$$$) what is the best system and why? I would like to stay with a 3" system, but looking at some of the specs, I guess this can be misleading.

Some of the brands (and YOU guys probably know them better than I) I saw were, Flowmaster, Pacesetter, Edelbrock, Summit, Borla, Hooker, and there are probably others.

Hopefully would like to stay around the $300 range give or take.

So lets hear all about them.

Thanks!!!!

Steve

SLP 3" Catback with the two exhaust pipes on the left side. It confuses people to no end. Good sound, not going to drive you out of the car. Also all Stainless Steel, no more rusted out exhaust.

Banks!..it is all stainless like the Borla, but half the price..it is comparable in price to the Hooker for like $300...Myself and several other guys here have it and it sounds and performs awesome..probably the best kept exhaust secret on this board IMO

DYNOMAX!!! Look at the sig, me basically have the same car...this is what i would recommend--the dynomax cat-back is pretty damn cheep at $180 or somewhere around there adn jegs usually has a rebate offer to take off another $30 or so. this way you can throw an open element on too. Believe Me!! these two mods compliment themselves like you wouldn't believe, ask anybody in the TBI board.

The ATR Performance Pit Bull is the best cat-back on the market. Turbo Buick & T/A & Syclone/Typhoon racers have been using them for years now.

Technically you would have to buy the "other" dynomax system for a 3" catback, which involves looking up Part numbers on their site and ordering all the parts and then you only have a single 3" tailpipe but oh well. The regular Dynomax system is only 2 3/4, but with a lightly built 305 it shouldn't cost you any power. If you plan on keeping the exhaust quiet at all and plan on headers and going without a cat i would recommend it. I may end up getting a dynomax 3" muffler after installing long tubes and taking off the cat, but i'll just have to see how loud it is.

Get the Flow's either the Amer. Thunder or the Force II (quieter) and you'll be happy. I ordered Borla once and when I got it I just LMAO at the # of pieces. It was good quality, but the hell if I was going to play around with 20 little pieces of pipe. I also tried Dynomax, but the primary pipe was like 2 adn 3/4 inches. I think that Flows are the best value for the money.

SUBZERO- I was interested in the Banks exhaust....I thought all banks made was exhaust for trucks? Did you just take a muffler and weld it in? A picture would also be nice...
thanks

Hooker Super Competition Cat Back System

Yesterday I got my Hooker cat back system.

That was a big and heavy box!!!

The pipes look huge.

Hopefully the installation will not be too much of a pain in the butt.

I think you'll be very happy w/ the Hooker. I have a Hooker on my LS1 and like it MUCH better than the Flowmaster on the IROC.

Ill say this and Im not misleading you or anyone that bought a Flowmaster such as myself.

When I wanted to do exhaust, sure enough I went with Flowmaster 80 series. The system does in fact sound beautiful.

But as driving time went home and "cool sound" became less important, I realized how friggin annoying the Flowmaster is because it resonates SO loud inside the cabin.

I have the exact make and model you have, even TBI. If your gonna get something "loud and sweet" sounding, then remember how loud it can be inside your cabin. And if your on a road trip, that loud "humming" as your cruising in 5th gear can really annoy.

I love my exhaust and Flowmaster lives up to its name. However, the noise is getting to me, and If I did it over again, I probably would have gotten something quieter.

I have the Flowmaster Force II catback.

Its pretty suddle, but sounds good when you hit the gas. There is absolutely no interior resonance at all (contrary to beleif) and you can carry a conversation with passengers really easy. My dads 94 Vette with Borla's has wayyy more interior noise than my car has.

I eventually want to get a louder exhaust though, maybe a Hooker or American Thunder.

Here is a soundclip of my car -

Entec #801-265-0903 ask for Eric or Ken. Great guys and are very easy to work with. I just got it and shipped to my door was around $400. I had to pay $50 for shipping so around $350. If you look below this forum you'll see Gale Banks in the exhaust section. Check it out and if interested give Entec a call. Just tell them they were mentioned on this site and ask them whatever questions you have. In my opinion, and I think subzero it's the best kept secret out there.

I would have to agree that Flowmaster's are overkill at times. Yes, they are louder but you can still great sound from other manufacturers(i.e, HOOKER !!!). It all comes down to your personal preference, but I love my Hooker Super Competition Cat-back system.
