Hedman Long Tubes (coated)
Ok just got some pics, I probably won't be able to install them for another 3 weeks (vacations coming up) or so but its nice to have them around. Just got dad a digital camera for fathers day and had to try it out. Its been reduced to 480 by 640, didn't have time to compress them more, but i can also post the 3.2 mp version if anyone wants.
These are Hedman coated hedders. Price is $303 from jegs part number is 500-68460-6. Overall i'm impressed with the finish, its not jet hot but its pretty good fro $85 cheaper. If anything i just wished i could have taken the time to sand off down the scratches and machining marks, but where they're at won't get a whole lot viewing.
I've got felpro 1444 gaskets and stage 8 locking bolts so hopefully once these are in i won't have to **** with them for a while once their on. I'm planning on running an exhuast similar to what mark shields is running with s-xtensions (welding in an o2 sensor on them) going over the tranny x-member into a y, into a hooker catback. In fact its exactly the same, but i swear mark i decided thats what i was doing before i even heard about your setup.
a few questions that i couldn't manage to quite figure out earlier 1-Do i need to use an lt1 or mini starter? My guy with the lt1 intake($75 w/ fuel rails) i'm buying whats to keep the starter and i'm not sure how much i'd even pay him for it.
2-Also i'm not sure how do i block off the remote oil cooler or how do i modify the cooler lines?
3-For Mark Sheilds do you have any newer sounds clips?
4-Also do you have any pics of it installed? In particular the y-pipe?
5-while i wait for an open weekend to install the headers, I want to pull the smog pump and block the lines, What type of plug do I need to block the lines? I've read 1/4" but that looks way to small to me unless people are cutting the lines and plugging them right off the manifolds, which i'd rather not do in case i ever want to put it back stock.
Well that about covers my questions for the night, Thanks,

dang, those look sweet.
I don't have a y pipe. I'm using the hedman s extensions into pipes that feed into a flowmaster y collector.
Nope, no sound clips yet, I'm having a new tranny put in, the last one was starting to go on me.
Ihope to get it back any day now, if I get time before Nationals, and if there is no rain, I'll try and snag a sound clip at WOT

from what i've read the hedman long tubes will not fit a manual without some modification, as in heating and bending the headers. I know somebody has done it before but i can't remember who or when.

Do a search for Hedman longtubes, put 1990GTA for the user name in the search. There should be a post there titled "I have no idea what headers to get..." by 84customZ28, check that post out, I have some pictures of the same headers you have that I just installed. My stock oil cooler is still in place with plenty of room. I had a Y-pipe made and just tied it into my existing exhaust, I will try to get some pics of the Y-pipe this weekend while I am under the car doing some other stuff.

dude omg i hope you dont have angled plugs because cylinder #3 you wont be able to remove the plug without removing those headers.
its a PITA.
I also had to grind the Kmember thing, the A arm thing, and even dent the header some to get it to fit on the driver side.
good luck. they looked just like yours before i had them in and out 40 times test fitting them.

I've still got stock heads for now, but was thinking of some pro lightnings, but they are available with straight plugs too. From the pic's I've seen the ground clearance is great with just the headers, but you'll have to run s-bends to run the exhaust over the tranny crossmember. I taped a pop can (2 9/16") over the crossmember and had no problems with dips, speed bumps, ect. It stayed on there for 3 weeks until i hit a speed bump hard in a hurry. As long as you're carefull you should have any problems.
I was going to do the install this weekend but I started rebuilding the tranny, and it just didn't seem to smart to get it all in and have to rip out the new exhuast if the tranny screws up again. Next weekend is open and I'm determined to get them in right away.
