hedman headers install

i have flowtechs right now but i want to put in a 350 in place of my 283 so the 1.5" tubes aren't going to be enough and i need a better y-pipe(mine is a custom made one worse than stock). i was wondering how tight the shorties are to get in. the flowtechs were kinda tight, it took like 10 mins to get them to slip down.

BTW, i have no emission stuff or AC in the way either, so its all open.

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Passenger side will drop right in, but for the driver side, remove the through bolt on the motor mount, and jack up that side of the engine a couple inches for clearance.

If you want to save money and your 350 is very mild you can get away with 1.5" primaries for the time being. Even LS1's only come with 1.5" primaries from the factory. But yea, go for the hedmans if you have the money.

my main consern is the y-pipe, its gona cost me about at least $150 to have a decent one made. i've been thining about getting a hedman y-pipe and modifying it to work with the flowtechs but i don't know how much work would needed to be done.

Half way through mine.. Flowtech - hedman.. Check out my progress with pics..

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=209924

Leave the motor mount alone. Take out the valve cover, and pull the bolt on the top of the steering shaft. Plenty of room after that.. I had to remove my blower, but you won't since you dont have one.

The passenger side does slide right in.. I'd like to hear feedback of someone with a large starter though.. It should clear the small one. Didn't clear my pro-torque, but I just gotta rotate that a little.. No biggy..

Forget about this crazy y-pipe idea. The hedmans discharge in completly different places than the flowtechs. The drivers side is like 4" forward, and 1" to the right. The passenger side is way off too.

The hedman y-pipe does suck, but if you check out my post you can see how to modify it to be just as good as SLP's y-pipe.

Flowtechs y-pipe would be great if it had a y-collector. Instead they dump 1 pipe into another like the stock setup. This is lame-o
and is justifiable for the lame-o-rama award..

Dont think crazy thoughts about having shops fab y-pipes. A 2.5" non mandrel bent pipe will flow tons less than a 2.25" mandrel bent one (like the hedman!). And, with the way the hedman discharges on the drives side, a 2.5" pipe wouldn't fit anyway unless you wanna reconstruct your oil pan.

LS1 guys also swap out ther manifolds for 1 3/4 headers and gain up to 25rwhp. flowtech's are just to get you by, but not ment to be on an engine that puts out more then 260hp.

Yes you are absolutely correct and most LS1's will see up to 26 at the wheels with long tubes. They are just enough to get you buy I was trying to put things into perspective. Some LS1 guys put down 350 to the wheels before they even touch the stock exhaust manifolds so I was just saying power can be made with small primaries. Not the ideal set-up but functional none the less.

As stated above, the passenger side slides right in. The passenger side I put in by removing the steer shaft. Removing the valve cover would be a good idea too (but not needed) because I scratched mine a little putting the header in.

For all the effort it seems to take to put on some of these shorties I am glad I bought the hedman lt's I put them both in from the bottom and the only things I had to do was grind the control arm mount and remove the starter.

that would mean that you did more work installing the long tubes than it takes to install the hedman shorties ....steering shaft is only 1 bolt.
