headman headers....good or crappy?
headman headers 68470 and 17470 y-pipe, are these headers any good for my 400? they are 1 5/8 with 3in collectors and im not sure what size the y pipe comes out but if its not 3 in i really dont want them.

And I wouldnt call it a Y pipe, more like a T pipe
. Mine looked like something that would have come stock and not in a good way. Trending Topics
Granted everyone has an opinion...
I've run the Hedman, Hooker, Edelbrock, JBA and a couple others, as far as shorty style headers for the 3rd gen.
Hedman wins hand down on install ease, fit, and spark plug access.
Hooker takes second...install is not bad, but plug access leaves alot to be desired. I DO like the Y-pipe of the Hooker's alot better than the Hedman's, BUT...if you have a decent exhaust shop around, they can make the Hedman Y-pipe a true mandrel 3" pipe with some pre bent pipe and some welding.
BTW..
Last set of Hedman's I installed where the full smog legal version w/ Y-pipe. They happened to be attached to a GTA than ran low 12's. So they can't be that bad.
In fact when he switched to long tubes and true duals, he only picked up a tenth or two thru the exhaust.
OF course we did weld in a cut-out on both systems. Uncapping 'em at the track ( if the track allows it....you laugh, some REQUIRE mufflers at the track now ) is always worth a tenth or two.

I have Hedman shorties.. haven't installed them yet (no money for the rest of the exhaust now, lol) but they look to me to be very well made parts, especially for what they cost.
The only thing I did to my headers was take a dremel/sanding drum inside the collector because there were a few ugly welds inside, but thats all.
For the cost, at least for that set, they are a very well made part IMO.
