hedman 68491

Does anyone have pics of these headers or know what this package contains?

I got them from Jet-Hot and I think I may be missing a piece. There were 4 parts in the package. 2 headers, 2 pipes and an install kit. The 2 pipes, one is long, one is short. The short one has a flange on one end and a slip fit on the other end. The flange is angled upwards. The long pipe is totally flat from the side view, from the top it has 2 90* bends in them.

I can't see how the long pipe connects to the driver's side header collector. It seems like I'm missing a piece, but Jet-Hot doesn't know.

Thanks

hEY, wE HAD A SET IN HERE @ THE SHOP BUT THEY WENT OUT UPS TO "RAIDEN" HERE ON THE BOARDS SO I CAN'T ACCURATELY ANSWER YOUR QUESTION. I DO KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT SHORT ANY OF THE PIPES. THERE ARE ONLY 2. AS FAR AS THE HARDWARE, WE DO NOT OPEN IT. SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO PM HIM @ THE END OF THE WEEK WHEN HE RECIEVES HIS AND GO OVER THE CONTENTS OF THE HARDWARE PACK WITH HIM.
SORRY I COULN'T HELP YOU MORE. BUT HE CAN DEFINITLY SOLVE YOUR PUZZLE THURS OR FRI.

91, my kit looks incorrect. The Y pipes do not look like they will match up correctly. I have not installed them, but when I put my TES headers on, I could definatley tell which way things needed to be. THe only way to use my new Y pipe setup is by cutting them and then welding them. Have you found out anything?

Hey Raiden,

I got in touch with Hedman regarding 68491. I sent them pics of what I had. They said I was missing 3 pieces. One is to slip on to the long y-pipe and is about a 90* bend up to connect to the driver's collector. The other 2 pieces go on the end of the y-pipes and is to hook up to dual 3" cats (up from 2.5") and is there if you need it.

I sent that info to Jet-Hot, they got in touch with Hedman to confirm, 2 days later, and a few phone calls in between and Hedman is sending the missing pieces to Jet-Hot to coat to send to me. Fortunately Jet-Hot took pictures of my headers before coating (because they sent me long tubes initially and it needed to be returned). Those pictures matched what I received.

last pic. Notice what's on the passenger's y-pipe. There is a slip-fit version of that for the driver's side.

Well, I'm missing thoes parts too! But one more thing I noticed. We have the D port heads. Well, stock we do and the headers I have are O port exhaust flanges. I'm going to have to send mine back They are so darn pretty I HATE TO GIVE THEM UP! But like I said, mine are not the correct part. They may fit on my car but are not the correct port I took out the header gasket and put it up to my head, then to the gasket I purchased for my car and they are WAY DIFFERENT. HOW DO YOUR exhust ports LOOK???????????

I have the stock 083 iron heads and they are not D-port. Anyway, that sucks as I was planning on getting aftermarket heads soon too. I'll probably end up selling these headers once I do.

Well, I do have AFR heads, but my exhaust ports are D shaped as 99.9% of stock thirdgen heads are D port. I had an 87 vett that had the same ports as the thridgen's, Typical for the l98 = d ports.

D-ports were only on the L98 aluminum heads. The stock TPI were O ports as far as I know.

I see what you are saying. The holes don't line up exactly. The gaskets are circular and the heads are squarish. Dunno, these are the recommended headers for my car with dual cats and CARB legal, so...

If you are going to return it, you may want to look into Hooker 2056. I just found it when going through the list of CARB-EO#s...I probably should have done that sooner.

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/amquery.php

Search the EOs by Manufacturer and by Exhaust. Hooker 2056 is listed as being legal in CA for dual cats.

y pipe

I think my y pipe parts are still wrong? I have one long pipe which is correct. And I have two identical pipes which I think are the same and therefore, one of the two will not work on one side or the other?

That piece is wrong. You got 2 passenger side pieces. The piece you need for the driver's side looks like just the tip of the passenger's side, and is about 4 inches long, with the same flange. It's a straight piece that curves up.

91z28-350,

OK, the second picture, the one of the long Y pipe..............Which direction does teh long piece go towards, the cat or header? By the looks of things, the long piece goes toward teh header adn you have to cut it,,,,,,,,,,right?

I have had nothing but troubble with these headers! My edlebrocks were a piece of cake! But these headers are a PITA to put on! the flange that mates to teh head, the holes do not line up correctly to the head! The are off like 1\16 of an inch so I need to drill them to fit correctly. Then, the collector flange is hitting the frame, which I thought was causing the problem of the holes not lining up correctly, but the holes are wrong!!! I will never NEVER purchase a set of headman headers again! Now ACS is awsome to deal with! great customer service, wiling to work with you ect............ I called headman and spoke to the VP of sales and she was so freaking rude at first...........I was pissed! Then, i said, AM I BOTHERING YOU? She changed her tone after that but ACS had the SAME exp. I advise you ALL to stay away from headman. I know a lot of people have headman's and have had no problems, but if you do have a problem with them, they could care less!! Anyway, poor customer service goes just as far as good, just the opposite direction X 10!

Sorry, I had to vent!!

Sorry for reviving this old post

Raiden,

The last thing you said was how much of a pain the hedmans were to install.

Did you install them even though the ports were oval vs. D shaped?

Did you use these with dual cats, and if so did they fit?

91Z28-350,

How did you fare with trying to get headers for a dual cat car?

I have a 1990 GTA 305 5sp dual cats, and was thinking of getting the dual cat hedmans from ACS, but reading this makes me think I should just go for the good ol' hooker 2055 setup, and go with a single exhaust.

Thanks in advance for an update on your situation,

Don

I had NOTHING BUT Problems with teh dual cat headman's!!! I called headman direct and got terrible customer service! Jimi did his best, but it was a headman headache! I'm still dealing with it! Sent them back twice, then ended up going with TES headers which FIT PERFECT. The first order of heamans the ports were oval, not D ports. The second set of Headman's, the bolt holes were off 1/8 of an inch one direction or the other! And the second set, the flange was hitting the frame! So we went with the tes headers We will see what happens next?

Yea, I had tes headers and they are an easy fit! Never used the headman's so I can't verify one way or the other. I did upgrade my headers to the SLP headers and Wow!!! I love them! A bit spendy, but with the addition of my procharger giving 9psi, WOW! Definatley go with SLP's, spend a little extra and have them coated, money well spent!
