Making SLP headers flow

I am sick of my skinny little SLP Y pipe and choked up single converter. I am toying with the idea of getting a TIG welder so naturally i am considering an exhaust upgrade. Besides i am using a walker corvette cat (4 bolt flange) and it is hurting my ground clearance.

Questions:

Where can i get stainless pipe for the Y pipe?

I need the ends that hold the donuts to connect to the headers

i need assorted bends

and i need a 2-1 collector for the y to cats

I want it all in stainless

Any ideas?

To make your own custom Y pipe, you need a pipe bender,
TIG welder ( which you know already) and the parts will
have to be like in Summit, Jeg's or some other online
catalog. I know that they sell some kind of piping at
Summit or Jeg's, but I don't know exactly what kind.

Also, try using the search engine. Use keywords like
"stainless steel exhaust pipe" or custom exhaust pipe.

Either that, or go to a custom exhaust shop and buy
some of their exhaust pipe. But while your there, have them
just make the whole dang thing and be done with it. Because
you need to buy the flanges, piping and have it bent to fit and
then welded up. I don't know how it can be done without the proper tools/equipment to custom make a Y pipe.

I don't know how small your skinny little SLP y pipe is, but I got a junkyard y pipe from an IROC (3" IIRC) and yes, it is stainless. That mod was worth 9 hp (I happened to run a dyno before and after). And that is on a pathetic Lg4. The tech that installed the y pipe (DynoDon) has seen 30 hp increases from that one mod.

GM does make a dual cat setup.

the y pipe was 3"? are you sure about that? i don't think 3" will clear the oil pan.

That's what I was told, and when i compared the original y pipe (2 1/4" IIRC) with the IROC y pipe, the IROC piece was noticeably larger. The cat that went with the IROC y pipe was also larger.

I had already put an Edelbrock cat back system on. The Edelbrock is three inches. That wasn't doing much good, since everything in front of it was smaller.

BTW, my LG4 is carb'd. I needed the y pipe off a carb'd IROC. The y pipe from a TPI IROC won't work.

You don't need stainless. Get the flowmaster y-pipe 3" to 3.5 inch and get a 3.5 inch to 3" reducer, and order some mandrel bends and make your own.

In fact i do need stainless, i drive my car everyday (i only have one) and i do not intend to make the y more than once. Stainless mandrel bends are very expensive however, so in my case its the right way or not at all. if my car was a gararged weekend toy i would consider mild steel.

I am not familiar with the flowmaster y pipe. is it a replacement for the factory pipe? is it made for fbodies specifically?
