Header questions

If i were to buy some headers for my car, would they simply bolt right on? Or would I need to fabricate in order to get all the stock o2 sensors and everything else to hook up to the headers. I'm looking at a pair of headers but if i gotta get all that stuff fabricated then screw that.

As long as you buy a set of hedders for V8 3rd ges they will bolt right up. You may have to drill out the 02 (only one) bung but the threaded part will already be welded on. The only real difference between the hedder kits for our cars are how they connect to the y-pipe and whether that have provisions for AIR or not. There may be some simple fab work there depending on what set you go with.

If you have AC and a bracket that bolts to both exhaust manifold bolts for the front cylinder, all headers require modification of that bracket (cutting off one leg). Not really a big deal.

Headers modify what the factory did. There will be some little hassles. And perhaps a few frustrations. But, in this little hobby of ours, we weigh the results against those little things and go have some fun at it.

You can save everything that you take off and put it back on at a later date. I did not modify any AC brackets or braces at all for my hedder install. They are extra measure to have but are not necessary. Why would not just sell the car with the hedders on? Why do you plan to mod it when thoughts of selling it are on your mind? Just curious thats all.

Although true, there is nothing special about a 305 3rd gen. My car had 21,000 miles on it just 4 years ago and has 34,000 now. I too wieghed that option until I realized what the insurance comp would give me for it. Trust me, these cars aren't worth anything more than what the beholder makes of it. I then proceded to mod the heck out of it.

but in a decade or so i bet it'll be worth quite a bit, in a way its a collectors car, an IROC a special edition car, just like the SS camaros will be worth a lot, thats just my belief anyways

shiftycapone, what model headers do you have? you said you didn't have to modify anything, so u simply unbolted the old manifolds and bolted the headers up to the block and to the y-pipe?? you also said something about how the manifolds bolt to the y-pipe is what we have to worry about when buying headers for our cars...what do i have to look for?? how many bolt holes or something of that sort?

Don't count on the value going up. You would also need to park it and not drive it daily. The old muscle cars are going way up value because baby boomers are going after them. The high dollar ones are also meticulously restored or incredibly low mileage.

Mod it if you like. Just keep the original parts. If you need to modify anything, you can go to a junkyard and get a replacement for the future and store it with everything else. You might be able to sell it in the future to someone who wants headers.

Modify it and enjoy it.

I have the flow tech hedders. They are junk but they did bolt up very nicely. All shorty kits for our cars will bolt right up. They will come with a new y-pipe and all install hardware. You may have to swear a little and coax them in but a little patience goes a long way with this type of swap. I like a ball style collector that is found on the SLP's, mac's, and Hooker 2055's. They allow for dimensional slop when being made along with slight miss-allignment. Flat collectors will only seal if they are perfectly lined up. We all know that never works that easy and the slightest hole will burn through any gasket you put in there. My collectors leak for this reason.

The 2055's are intended for your application. Of all the people who have to do modifications to get them to fit, you're one with the least.

I can't imagine your car being worth more with the stock exhaust than with headers. Even in 10 years.

Maybe in 50 years.

i'm not saying they will be worth more with or without, i'm just saying i've always seen that the stocker the car is and in great condition, the more it is worth if you tried to resell it

so the AIR tubes would hook right up on hooker 2055s?
