Catco cat question
As it sit now, all my car has is headers and a Y pipe. I plan to get the SLP loudmouth, and I'm gonna have it installed professionally. last, I no longer have the AIR tubes.
No AIR tubes, no factory Y pipe or Intermediate pipe. My question is do I simply need a universal cat that has the correct size inlet and outlet? That should be a simple install for an exhaust shop, right?

What kind of headers do you have? The new y-pipe should properly work with a direct fit 3 inch cat for your car. A new catback would work with it also.
You can go the universal route too. Might be better since the cats are cheaper. Thats what I did since I had a shop install my catback. I just got a $40 magnaflow cat and they just welded it to the I pipe and y-pipe. It was easy for them

I have the SLP Y pipe on SLP headers.
I fiure no need to buy the SLP install kit for the loudmouth, I'll just have the shop make any minor adjustments needed. Heck, that's stuff pretty easy for them, and they can do the cat at the same time.

Actually, check out Ebay for 3" universal fit Catco..they're around $30 or so and should fit perfect with a butt joint band clamp from Dynomax..no welding or anything...then just have the loudmouth installed to fit with the same 3" clamp on the outlet side so the whole thing can come right out if you need it to. If you want a direct fit Catco, I may be doing what I just described on my Iroc and would be willing to part with my direct fit cat. It's only 5 years old or so, but I can understand if you want all new stuff under there...you the bling bling man now.. 
The reason I bring this idea up is that a direct fit cat is about $130 from Summit, and the universals are only $30 or so and I can't justify the difference, especially if you're doing a semi custom setup anyway.

If you have SLP headers and Y-pipe just buy the SLP slip fit connector and you will have no problem fitting a direct fit 3" Catco cat.

Do you have a pic of the loudmouth I pipe? Is it on the SLP site? I'm curious as to how it will attach to the cat. I will be installing a Borla and will have to have an adapter pipe made to go from the outlet of the cat to the Borla I pipe as it doesn't go all th way to it. It kinda stops right before the trans crossmember.

From what I understand, it's very close to being a direct fit, WITH the SLP adapter. I think the issue was more with hangers, etc.
I don't have a pic, but I've seen a few....next time I get a minute I'll do some digging.

If so, check your local muffler shops. Unless you MUST have the stainless piece from SLP (I bought it and had it coated with my SLPs..), my local shop has that same piece in regular steel for $12. LMK if you'd like me to grab you one..

That's why mine IS stainless...I know that some guys won't justify the $35 for the SLP adapter and will want to go cheap. I doubt Chris will do that tho...

I'm gonna take the car to the exhaust guy, hand him the SLP LM system, a CC, and tell him to install it, and if he needs to fab up any small adapter pieces, I'll have him use stainless.
....My only point was that I wasn't going to buy "SLP" brand pipe, when the exhaust guy probably has the same pipe in the scrap bin.

No 350 5sp is going to pass a smog test without some emissions controls on it, and I still say you removed everything. Junior Member

all the smog equiptment was hooked up. it was the cat. they are good performance cats but not good emisions cats. im not the only one that has had problems with catco. so if you have to pass emmisions dont get a catco

I'm going with Catco.
...I haven't heard of any problems.
....and several people have passed the sniffer here with NO cat. I might tune your car up a little!

So keep working on these cars and gain some additional knowledge. Hey guys, keep it civil; this is getting out of hand quick. If someone had success with a Catco, use it. If you didn't have success with it, use something else. Post count is entirely irrelevant to a person's knowledge. Now back to the TECH.

Personally, I love carsound. Great high flowing cats. If you look at the mating between the body and the ends, its such a great design. Plus they can be had cheaper than a catco.

Just to report what I've found.
In my "opinion", too many people were iffy about Catco. Too many problems that could've possibly been the Catco CC. No bad reports about the others.
...I went with Carsound/Magnaflow.
