Anybody know where I can get an O2 sensor extension wire? I called up all the local auto part stores and they dont carry them.

I had an old O2 sitting around. I also cut and soldered to the new o2.

Is it ok to do that? I was talking to a guy at Napa and I asked him if I could just extend the wire but he said it would affect the readings.

It may work o.k. some people have done it without any problems. For $20.00 why not just get the extension wiring harness, and not have to worry about any problems. Part # for the GM square type is 182-109007. Part # for the flat type is 182-109011.

It wont effect the readings if you use the same guage wire and the soldering joints are proper. If the soldering looks like it was done by a monkey and you have 2 different wire diameters then yes your reading may be off.

So did you guys add the wire to the O2 or the factory wiring? Im guessing the O2. I will see if I have an old O2 sensor laying around. Soldering isnt to hard is it? I have never done that before.

Dzhezkov-What guage wire should I use?

I did a search for this when I encountered the problem, and I forget why, but the concesus was to splice extra into the wiring harness. One reason is, you don't have to cut and solder every 15,000-20,000 or so miles.

Some O2 sensors get their reference air through the cable, so cutting, splicing and taping would cut off the supply of reference air and ruin the sensor. I don't know if the sensors used on thirdgens are of this type, but I don't think so.

I have an 84 parts car, I could use the O2 sensor wiring off that car. I think thats the route I will go, doesnt seem like it will be too hard.
