hedman y-pipe problem

how tight do you tighten the y-pipe to the colectors? I think i messed up. one opening of the y-pipe is now warped along with one of the bolts. Now i have a fairly large exhaust leak. sugestions? tighten the the bolts more? use some copper exhaust rtv? this is bothering the hell out of me.

Do you have "ball and socket style flange" on both the headers and y-pipe or are they both flat flange or is one ball and one flat??? This is a current problem with the new Hedman stuff. Figure this out then I can help u correct ur prob.

If heddman is sending out headers with the flat 3-bolt style flanges, then what's the difference between them and the Hooker 2460's? If they're making the ypipe with the flat flanges, then you can use the heddman ypipe with the hooder 2460 headers

Anyway, mine came with the ball and socket flanges. If you don't have them lined up right before you tighten them, it will pull to one side and open it up. Loosen them all and re-align.

I had a post on this last year when I couldn't get mine to connect up either. I ended up using a pair of exhaust doughnut to make up the gap and since they are soft lead, I think, they conformed around header and collector perfectly. This kept the exhaust from being drawn up tight against the oil pan and the crossmember. No leaks and they can be reused if you need to take the exhaust down as long as you don't destroy the doughnuts. I still have the part number of the doughnuts I used on my car if you need it.

Just to correct a point ( as I sell the Hedmans) They still sell Flat flange, And Ball and socket style hdrs and y-pipes and as with any Co, they @(*&*$^&% up and mix them up more often than not.
