set off my first car alarm tonight
My flowmaster 80 series 3inch catback set off a car alarm tonight. My dad thought it was an ambulance coming but i told him the car next to us, parked on the side of the road had its alarm going off cuz my exhaust set it off.
Its loud, and has a nice idle rumble. But its not as loud and mean as i want it to be. I figure my stock cat is choking it abit.
I think i want to add two bullets or spiral pros in stock location. Single 3inch over the axle and then split into two mufflers to get dual exits. Think this would be louder than 80 series? i figure it will be louder and flow better but quiet enough to keep police at bay and neighbors happy. LOL I kinda like the fact of setting of alarms. LOL

yeah, it surprised me as it was my first
How much improvement will a highflow cat like Catco or Magnaflow make on sound?
besides sub frame connectors, my 3.27 gears, and LCA's, a high flow cat will be the next mod. Maybe before LCA's cuz i love sound!! LOL

I set off my first, as well. LG4 with stock cat and no muffler. Revved the throttle a bit and the 90's Integra parked next to me started beeping and whistling it's head off. I was shocked. LOL

yea i set alarms off too with mine....ITS STOCK...well kinda, it has a straight piped cat, and a pinky sized hole in the left header...so she barks a little bit when you get on her...i can't wait till I get a NICE exhaust that can sound nice and be loud enough to set off alarms.....and that is one reason why i'm not getting a car alarm, people just mess with your car more to make your alarm go off..its annoying, but funny as hell when you do!!!

My recipe for setting off car alarms:
1) V8
2) SLP Headers and Y-pipe
3) Hooker Cat back and Catco cat
4) Don't hook up Y-pipe to cat or cat back (also known as running open headers...err open y-pipe)
5) add in a dash of part throttle fun

sweet i would have thought you would set off alot more than that
ive set off 1 alarm in the last month with my dynomax superturbo 3 inch hi flow cat headers. and the dynomax is supossed to be very quiet which it is still got that alarm
when my car was way outta tune sounding like a stock car racer with a monster cam(not really but the tuen) with no cat i used to set off the same alarm everyday

i probly could have, but never drive next to alot of parked cars. Like never been in a parking garage and at mall parking lots, no car that i been close to has gone off. probly most cars dont have an alarm. LOL it was just the other day, coming thru downtown at night, that the car alarm went off next to me. Pretty cool feeling. makes me feel like my car is more powerful than what it is.
Its loud and deep as it idles when warmed up but nothing to really brag about. I want it louder and that will come with new cat and bigger motor. I want to run some bullets out back and be real aggressive sounding but since its stock, i dont think that would be a good thing to have a slow car and be loud.

Hehe, good stuff, I've got a Flowmaster American Thunder system with a Magnaflow cat on my 350. One day a couple months ago I started my car up in the garage (it was headed in) and my dad's 4th gen T/A was sitting outside backed up to the door for the other garage stall. As I was warming up my car I started revving it. Each time I revved it dad's car would go *honk honk*. At first I thought it was my imagination but sure enough, when I revved my car up his car honked and flashed the lights. I guess it was the anti-theft impact sensors that I was tripping with the exhaust. I thought it was pretty cool
Remember, loud mufflers save lives
but why do we run into trouble with our loud exhausts when it comes to inspection time and Hardley Ablesons can run around with straight pipes making twice as much noise as our thirdgens? This I will never understand, but congrats on setting off the car alarm :lala:

only one alarm set off?
shortly after moving into my new house, I introduced the neighbors on our rather narrow street to my camaro @ 7am on the way to work. set off quite a few on the same block.
needless to say, when I got home, 3 of the owners wanted to have a block warming bitch session.
and anybody wanta guess to came to my aide? my cool neighbor, rides a harley. so, long story short, everybody disperssed to take a chill pill. I told 'em I'm not going to quiet up my exhaust, BUT, I will stop leaving the smell of rubber when I leave.
Oh, a week later, my neighbor took his baffles out of his bike's pipes too.
only bad side to a healthy sounding exhaust, you have a really tought time using "wasn't me officer"
oh, giving 3rd gen. owners a bad rap? don't see how. I've put my tiime, money and effort into to getting MY car the way I want it, not your's.

our 81 camaro had a built 350 with a lumpy cam, 3 inch duals to dual flows (40 series) and that thing would set the alarms off every time we rode by, neighbors hated it.

I have set off several alarms...if I am at say Walmart for example and the car next to me has an alarm, as soon as i start the car, the alarm is going off. I dont think I have set any off while driving by them, but most of the ones I set off are set off by me just simply starting the car.
This is thru Hedman LT's and dual 2 1/2" pipe with x-pipe, no cats, and dual bullets dumped before the axle.

the most ironic part of the whole deal is. how many of us actually have car alarms ourselves and still enjoy setting them off

I set them off just starting up lol its stock pipe but some how I managed to crush the pipe over the axle with my driving on the mountain roads near me doing like 90 -100mph average on twisty roads lol. I repaired the pipe but it has a few little gaps were I bolted up a cheap little pipe from autozone on it. but damn sounds nice lol. I want to do my exhaust for reall pretty soon, I have hooker headers waiting for it and I want to run it through two cats and two mufflers and do side exit just before the rear tires.

I have an 80 series flowmaster with 3" exhaust and no cats...it sets alarms all the time but it's also not annoyingly loud either. I love it. A high flow cat will unleash some more volume.

i used to do it all the time in my 83Z i had, i had headman long tube headers, 3inch true duals all the way back to summit brand turbo mufflers and turn downs.
i could do it while driving through a parking lot like at school and every one would go off, ive set a few off at idle too.
