It is loud as hell. My buddies heard me many many many streets away only taking it to 3000 rpm's. Car felt like it lacked torque running like that. Running open headers is fun for a while, but not something your going to want to do every day.

What kind of headers do you have?

Shorties don't do at all well uncorked at the collector - just too short for low-end torque. Even long tubes often run better with a collector extention tube when open.

Open headers is LOUD! You will get headaches driving around for more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time.

Ever hear a funny car out at the drag races? Thats what open headers sounds like. On some engines, it can sound great... on others, it might sound like ***.

Open headers is the least restrictive exhaust system you can have, so generally, open headers will make more power than any other exhaust setup. This is why race cars use open headers.

turn your volume and sub up to about 75% and you might get close to what it's like in person...

I just cut the exhaust off from the end of the y-pipe back tonight, man it gets loud lol. Been waiting for an excuse to change headers and try to build my own exhaust. Also going to the track tomorrow err today.

Did you mean to ask a question: "...but will my car get better 0 to 60 time?"

No. 0 to 60 is dominated by the low end.

I've had my car out at the track the last two Saturdays: 1st weekend, uncorked at the collectors (LT's); 2nd weekend, kept it corked up through the full dual system (mufflers, tailpipes, no H or X pipe). The 1st Saturday I was going for 1/4 mile MPH. 2nd Saturday getting some practice for the upcoming season. Air density and wind favored the 1st Saturday. For the runs that I made the 1st Sat. closest to the "season" configuration except for exhaust, they were all slower from 60' on, including ET and MPH, than the 2nd Sat. with the system corked.

Open exhaust is going to be louder, but it isn't necessarily quicker or faster than a good exhaust system.

I have hedman LT's on my mostly stock L98. For a while I had to run around with open headers due to fabricating my exhuast. It was painfully loud and sounded like crap, especially right off idle. I definitely lost low end torque from the reading of the seat dyno, however, it did feel slightly faster up top, dunnno if it was but damn sure sounded like it. It does get old REALLY fast though. Gives you a headache and rattles EVERYTHING in your car when you come to a stop.
