Need help deciding on Cat Back System--Help me out...
Alrite i'm going to be getting a cat back exhaust system for my new car (and my first car!)--my 92 RS Camaro. From the research i've done, i think i want the Dynomax Ultra Flow catback system... however, i just want to make sure that its right for me. I want it be louder, better sounding and deeper than stock, however i don't want it to be insanely and annoying loud, raspy, and have alot of white noise. From what i've read Dynomax is relatively quiet compared to some other setups, but still sounds much better than stock. For now, the exhaust will be the only modfication to the car (i might get headers down the road, but i plan on just havin the exhasut on for awhile). Basically i want to see what you guys think, and if you have any sound clips of dynomax ultra flow on your 3rd gen f-body (seeing as i have not heard ultra flows on a 3rd gen yet), and also if you do hav esound clips, could you post ones that are as close to a stock car + exhaust as possible so i can see the closest indicator of what the system will sound like.
Thanks, any input is GREATLY appricaited.

Come on, some one has to know how both of these systems sound on a 3rd gen!!! I just want to know if the Ultra Flo system is going to be TOO loud.

Actually, after doing some searching i might re-consider getting the Edelbrock RPM series catback. I dont know much about it though.
If there is anything that anyone can tell me about these 3 (Super turbo, ultra flo, and edelbrock RPM) catback systems to help in my decision, please let me know. I'd like to know how they sound our cars and if they'd be suitable for daily driving (read: not annoyingly or obnoxiously loud).

I have the Edelbrock, its a real nice system. Ok for daily driving. It has a lower pitched sound. Classic muscle car kind of sound. Where in PA do you live, if close by you could come and hear mine.

Wow your really close to me. I live in Breinigsville (sp??-- i moved from bethlehem about 1 1/2 years ago and i still can't spell my new town name, haha). Im assuming you've heard of it, but if not, its like right next to fogelsville.
The only questions i have bout the edelbrock is how it bolts on. I found a topic on here about how it didn't fit right for some people and they had to adjust it. I don't want to deal with that kinda stuff... either way though. i'd be interested in hearing your car.
Right now its between the dynomax ultra flo and the edelbrock system (which i've yet to hear).

I have heard good reports on the Dynomax Ultra Flow mufflers. They are among the best regarding power and not being to loud. Allen

Yea i'm going to order my exhaust this weekend... Hopefully after hearing 87350Iroc's edelbrock system. I actually got a sound clip of the ultra flo on FastElectric's 305 TBI and it sounds reallll good.
My concern with the edelbrock system is that it doesn't fit exactly as some people on this board said... how often does this happen/??

All of the Ultraflow systems I could find on summitracing.com had 2-1/2" I-pipe.

Do you guys think that a 3 in. intermediate pipe would even benefit my car (w/ a stock LO3)??? I've yet to hear 87350Iroc's edelbrock setup (which has the 3 in. intermediate piping), so i havent made a decision on the ultra flow (2.5 int. pipe)yet...but i'm just wondering if that even means anything to me with my stock TBI engine....
I have a 85 IROC TPI 305. When you talk Flowmaster, Dynomax, etc, you need to be very specific about the model muffler in question. Now, as for Dynomax, in the Ultraflow series alone, they have at least 2 different crossflow Ultraflows for 3rd gens ( one inlet/two outlet ). Ultraflow Stainless Steel, 2 1/2 in inlet / outlets, and Ultraflow Welded Racing Muffler, 3 inch inlet / 2 1/2 outlets (#17227).
I have the racing welded, stock TPI manifolds, no cat, 2 3/4 in factory mandrel bent exhaust pipe into it, 2 stock location tailpipes out, and the sound is great. You can look into any of the 3 openings on this muffler and see straight thru one end to the other, ......super free flowing. At first, it was SLIGHTLY louder than stock. After about 300 or so miles, it became a very throaty, deep rumble in normal driving, and quite aggressive at WOT. Now I have 6000 or so miles on it, sound is excellent! Plus no "Flowmaster "drone" in the car when cruising. This muffler is much more muscular sounding than the OEM was, and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
Then again, I'm not 18-25 years old, so I don't go for LOUD just for kicks, or because "everybody else does". However, it definately don't sound stock.
I would say that if you just want "loud" for the sake of loud, go Flowmaster. If you want both excellent flow and deep, rich sound, go Ultramax Welded.

Yea i definately don't want flowmaster sounding exhaust. I'm leaning more towards the Ultra Flo catback right now, but after i hear 87350Iroc's edelbrock system then i can make the call.

My personal opinion.. I doubt a 3 inch I-Pipe would really provide much of a benifit.. to a stock LO3 at all.. as it is.. the stock pipe is 2 1/4.. so the 2 1/2 is already a little better. plus mandrel bent. Another plus.. it was all a direct bolt in to the stock cat too. which was really nice.
