You have the weeney '91-'92 TPI single cat system. The cat-back is for the '86-'90 TPI 3" single cat system.

that looks like a stock CAT to me.. and it looks like a 2 1/2".. get a 3" cat from Ebay.. get the "carsound 3" universal fit, WITH A.I.R. tube."
carsound is made by Magna flow.. you can pick one up for 59$ plus shipping.
on that note.. whats the diameter of your Y pipe? do you have headers at all?

Take it to an experienced shop and have them install it. Most likely they will put an adapter on the cat and weld it to the I-pipe.
You can also do what killjoy said and get a 3" cat to match the rest of the system.

No worries bro!
Hey man, don't fret, you've got the right system, you just need to get a 3" cat and have an exhaust shop fit your cat to your stock y-pipe with a reducer. I bought the direct replacement 3" Catco high-flow cat from Summit. I had the exhaust shop weld it to my stock y-pipe with a reducer and then the rest of the system just bolts right up to the 3" Catco. The catalytic is right around $100 from Summit, you should probably replace your stock one now anyway.

If they know what they are doing, YES. I had the same thing done on my RS. Just make sure they don't chop any off the front of the converter in case you decide to add headers later.

Getting a new cat, as stated in the later posts, would be a much better idea.

Yeap, what he said.
It will flow better and give you a better sound too. That is if you get a hi-flow.

im sick of this damn kit, i gave up and im just paying a dude at midas to make it fit to the stock cat...i dont give a sh*t...im tired of worrying about this and spending more money on it. The guy whos gonna install it said hes done this kit on 3rd gens many times and it might rattle cause the car wasnt meant to have 3 inch pipes on it...does anybody else have the kit and does it rattle?

have the same kit.. not a single rattle in 3 years.. as long as they dont tuck the damn pipes up too close to the body, you're not going to hear a thing.. the hangers all have rubber bushings.. so what are they supposed rattle on?

Car is not supposed to have a 3" system?
3rd gen is a 3rd gen, some had bigger pipes than others but Flowmaster and Dynomax and all the other leading competitors wouldn't sell a crapload of 3" systems if they didn't fit. I wouldn't trust what a guy from Midas says anyways. Flowmaster makes 2 kits for those cars. One for a 2 1/2" cat and one for a 3" cat. Probably should have checked what cat you had before ordering the system. I have the 3" kit on my car and it fits great, but then again Midas didn't put mine on. Only thing that will rattle are the factory heat sheilds if they are loose. If they made sure they were tight before they installed the pipes they wouldn't complain about rattles.

And this guy isnt some looser mechanic so stop judging him....
he said it will most likley rattle if i did it...

If you put a shorter cat on the car, now the intermediate pipe won't be long enough to fit between the cat and muffler so you will still need to have your pipe lengthened.

Then you already knew the answer to your own question. If the pipe is now too short, its obviously not going to bolt up then is it?
im wondering if this http://www.performancepeddler.com/de...CT_ID=MAG94219 would be a good cat... its going to need a reducer, will there be enough room? the pipe b4 the cat is curved and i dont want the reucer mounted on a curve..

Go to a local junkyard and find one with a factory 3" Cat, cut it off, take it to a good exhaust guy and have him install the new cat and exhaust and everything will be ok...

ive bought from that guy 3 times.. ships in 2 days, always sent me what i asked me..
so you're basically wasting 30$ in higher price, shipping and tax.. that sucks
oh well.. do what you want..
did you ever get your exhaust on? or are you waiting for the CAT?
