Doesn't seem like a hard task, just a lot of cutting and welding.

I think I would be cool to make own with a crazy idea.

look up deadbird. he has done a ton of custom exhaust, including building 3 or 4 of his own mufflers. i think he is in the process of building another one. all of them have always sounded great and the placement is pretty cool too, he is just never satisified for some reason.

and dan_the_man: i've noticed that you post in alot of tech related topics but never have alot to add. this is known as "post whoring" . be careful you don't become one of "those" guys. if you have nothing technical to add to a technical thread, just dont post for postings sake

Actually it would be really cool, and you could fine tune and get exactly the sound you want! Plus you have ultimate bragging rights..

I custom designed my exhaust system, although I used someone else's resonator.

Used to have a neighbor who was a pipe fitter and welder. Made his exhaust out of copper pipe and built his mufflers. Last forever. I'd think that with today's technology that a good turbo type aftermarket muffler would be hard to beat all things considered.

That's on par with saying.. ' it doesn't seem like a good idea to make your own true dual exhaust system when there are tons of 3" catbacks available out there'...

Not everyone likes 'off the self' sound....

Thnx mw66... *edit... the 16's... definatly better

Just in case anyone cares...

The 1st design mufflers on my 'bird..

Design 2...

Next try should have the combo I'm looking for... quiet cruise/spirited accel. Little effect @ wot/upper rpm.

3) Crossflow for a friends v6....

1 - $8 for the pair
2 - $14
3 - under $20

All spent.. I would be halfway to buying a flowmaster.

Speaking of.. free flomaster modified for duals out the rear.. eventually in as well as time permits...

yup, made my own a while back when I was board one night. had some thin sheet metal laying around and went to work. Since this was my first one I didn't care too much what it looked like, just wanted to try it out. basically an 18" x 9" x 4" box with a 3" offset inlet/outlet. Only thing inside it is 2 pieces of 4" angle spaced evenly apart. Sounds pretty good, especially at WOT, got a nice tone at idle, and doesn't have any rattle or "tinny" sound to it. I'd like to remake one like your #2 deadbird that is curved and actually looks like a muffler. But I usually have my cutout cracked open anyway, so I'm not real worried about it.

We build all of our own mufflers here. There are a pretty simple design but they only flow 10% less then a length of pipe. Good luck finding a muffler from flowmaster, spintech, etc. that flows more and makes more power. We have about 10 different designs and sizes, Some quieter and less flowing then others but they all have been tested on a dyno and make more power then anything on the market.
